The Human League are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their breakthrough album Dare! As a special treat, they have commissioned new remixes by Purple Disco Machine of their global mega-hit "Don't You Want Me."
"Don't You Want Me" was originally released in the UK in November of 1981. It entered the UK charts at #9 and went to #1 the second week where it stayed for 5 weeks. Not bad for a song the band didn't want to release! Why didn't they want to release it? Well, there were already 3 singles from the album before this one. Also, the lyrics are not about love, but about power and control. In the summer of 1982, the song would spend 3 weeks at #1 in the US. It also went to #1 in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Isreal, New Zealand, and Norway. Watch the original music video here ...
The Purple Disco Machine Remix isn't a million miles away from the original. Tino Schmidt, the German producer who is Purple Disco Machine, said he deliberately kept his remix faithful to the original as he knew he couldn't tamper with the powerful verses and chorus.
