Take My Hand by Lastlings

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The Japanese-Australian synth duo, Lastlings, is the latest example of top-drawer indie electronic music from down under. Composed of siblings Amy and Josh Dowdle, Lastlings started out in 2015 releasing music online while still in their teens. Initially creating low-fi chilled out electronica on EPs such as Unreality (2016) and Verses (2017), the pair have evolved to a more beat-driven approach while still retaining their atmospheric sound as evidenced on their excellent new single, “Take My Hand.”

Clearly musically influenced by their friendship with Rüfüs Du Sol (with whom they have toured twice and at whose studio the new single was recorded), “Take My Hand” combines pulsating tension with an emotive quality. Lyrically, they describe the song as being about “two people who are unprepared to let go of each other. They both care about each other deeply but have to go their separate ways.”

The accompanying video takes this theme incorporates Josh and Amy’s enthusiasm for sci-fi by depicting a future where devices allow people to relive memories of people they otherwise can no longer be with. It’s a bittersweet notion made especially poignant in our current environment of social distancing and COVID19 anxieties. Watch the mesmerizing video here ...

“Take My Hand” was written and produced by Lastlings with Cassian Stewart Kasimba. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.
