#16 of 2017

Dear Poptastic Readers,

#16 in our Top 100 Songs of 2017 is "All Men Must Die" by RABBII. Click on the name of the song to see what we first wrote about the song earlier this year.

"All Men Must Die" ended up being controversial for the group. Sure the title is obviously provocative. However, the line actually comes from Games Of Thrones. (You can even hear a reference to Hodor in in the song.) When you listen to the lyrics, you can hear that it isn't about killing people. RABBII even offered up this disclaimer ...

Disclaimer:
For anyone who feels like we’re out on a murder spree wanting to kill them, we’re not. Feel better? Good. We want the social construct of Man to die. The Man that is responsible for almost all rapes, who fight wars, who marches in white supremacist rallies.. you get our point, right? Again, not the actual men, but the idea of that man that our culture has created. Still angry? Well, then we really can’t help you. You should try yoga.

That disclaimer wasn't enough for Instagram, as RABBII had their account disabled. We thought it was pretty awful for Instagram to do and we sided with RABBII on that one. Lead singer Jo wrote this on their Facebook page ...

It's about a culture that needs to die. The patriarchy. Macho culture. Male privilege. It’s about me and my fears going home alone from a bar, keys in my hands — in case my life’ll depend on it. About the music business I work in where more than a few men thinks it's a good idea to use their power to abuse, hit on, and force themselves on an insecure, young girl with no clue about her worth in the world. I know because I am that girl.

We stand with you, Jo & RABBII! We remembered that a 1991 movie called The Pope Must Die was so controversial that they changed the title to The Pope Must Diet on all of the artwork. So we offered up this fun solution for RABBII ...

RABBII also had some fun with the music video. The hot dogs are hilarious! Don't miss the red hats! Check the video out ...

Wasn't that awesome? Yes, it was! RABBII even said: "It's all veggie hot dogs, so no men or animals were harmed during the recording of this video."

Gotta love them! "All Men Must Die" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Be sure to support them by legally downloading the track. You can also hear the song on our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You can also hear their song "Majestic" on there, too. You might also remember that their 2016 song "New Friends" came in at #5 on our countdown last year.

Cheers then,
—The Poptastic Confessions Collective
