#7 of 2019

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy Christmas Eve! In case you are just joining us, we are counting down our Top 100 Songs of 2019. We will post a song a day (except Christmas) until we get to the #1 song on New Year’s Eve.

#7 in our Top 100 Songs of 2019: “Flowers” by DJ Spoony featuring Sugababes. Click on the title of the song to see what we originally said about it — plus a full complicated history of the Sugababes.

Produced by: DJ Spoony

Why: The official return of the original lineup of Sugababes using their band name was huge. We weren’t expecting this cover of a garage-pop classic “Flowers” (originally performed by Sweet Female Attitude) with DJ Spoony, but we were delighted none-the-less. We must admit, we weren’t sure about this on the first couple of listens. However, the harmonies and beats quickly won us over.

Watch: There wasn’t a music video, because technically it wasn’t released as a single. However, DJ Spoony and the Sugababes performed the song with an orchestra on The Graham Norton Show. Have a look …

Fun fact: The last time the Sugababes were on our countdown, they also came in at the #7 position in 2011. However, it was a completely different lineup of the group. This lineup of the group was on our countdown in 2013, but not with the Sugababes name. Confusing? Read our history on the group.

Chart history: The Sugababes/MKS have been in the Poptastic Confessions Top 20 three times. Check out these songs …

“Wear My Kiss” was #8 in 2010

“Freedom” was #7 in 2011

“Flatline” was #11 in 2013
