#1 of 2020

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In case you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 100 Songs of 2020. And today is our #1 choice …

#1 in our Top 100 Songs of 2020: “Something In Your Eyes” by Steps. Click on the title of the song to see what we originally said about it.

Written by: Erik Bernholm, Henrik Sethsson, and Thomas G:son

Produced by: Barry Stone and Julian Gingell

Why: This remake of Jenny Silver's 2011 Melodifestivalen entry is ACE! It is so very ABBA, and yet, it is so very Steps. The vocal acrobats of Claire, Faye, and Lisa are just amazing from the low registers to high very quickly, plus key changes. Although the male singers Lee and H don't have any solo lines here, they do a great job of backing vocals and manage not to get lost in the mix.

Watch: The music video is also very Steps ... time to memorize these dance moves ...

Live performance: Steps performed "Something In Your Eyes" at the Royal Variety Show. Unfortunately it isn't on YouTube in high definition. When it is, we will update the link, but you can see a low-fi video here ...

Chart history: Steps have had songs in Poptastic Confessions Top 20 countdown since 2017. They've even had album tracks chart in our Top 100. "Something In Your Eyes" is their first #1 song for us, although they were close in 2017 at #2. Here is how their singles have charted ...

"Scared Of The Dark" was #2 in 2017

"Dancing With A Broken Heart" was #5 in 2017

"Neon Blue" was #9 in 2017

"Story Of A Heart" was #24 in 2017

#2 of 2020

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In case you are just joining us, we are counting down our Top 100 Songs of 2020. We have been posting a song a day until we get to the #1 song tomorrow on New Year’s Eve.

#2 in our Top 100 Songs of 2020: “Say Something” by Kylie Minogue. Click on the title of the song to see what we originally said about it.

Written by: Ash Howes, Biff Stannard, Jon Green, and Kylie Minogue

Produced by: Biff Stannard and Jon Green

Why: We must admit, it took us about a week to warm up to this song, but as soon as we did, we were singing it all year long. The lyrics being very timely for this pandemic year. There was even a time when we thought it might be our #1 song, and it is almost was.

Watch: The music video is so glorious! We need sequin hoodies ASAP!
