#1 of 2022

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy New Year! In case you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 101 Songs of 2022. Today we finish the countdown.

#1 in our Top 101 Songs of 2022 is: “Get Me To The Weekend” by Betty Boo. Click on the name of the song to read about what we originally wrote about the song earlier this year.

Written by: Alison Clarkson (aka Betty Boo) Andy Wright, Ian Burden, and Phil Oakey

Produced by: Alison Clarkson, Andy Wright, and Gavin Goldberg

Why: Betty Boo's comeback this year was nothing short of amazing. She had 4 proper singles, 2 teaser singles, 3 music videos, 2 lyric videos, and 1 very fun album: Boomerang. It's hard to believe that 30 years passed between her 2nd album and her latest. It was her comeback single "Get Me To The Weekend" that we just couldn't stop listening to all year long. It's a bit wonky with the Human League sample, some obvious autotune, and a guitar solo. Maybe it shouldn't work, but it does! This is so much fun, and 2022 was better because Betty was back!

Watch: The music video features the Booettes and it is colorful delight. Check it out in our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube

Live Performance: Check out this live performance of "Get Me To The Weekend" at Betty's album launch party in London.

Chart History: Before this year, Betty's last single was in 2007, and Poptastic Confessions started in 2011. So she has never been on our countdowns before this year. However, she did have lots of songs in our Top 101 Songs this year ...

"Shining Star" was #4 this year

"Boomerang" was #14 this year

"Stop Your Nonsense (Bubblegum Pop)" was #32 this year

"Superstar" was #41 this year

"Miracle" featuring Chuck D was #44 this year

"Hell Yeah" was #48 this year

"All I Wanna Do" was #53 this year

"Right By Your Side" featuring David Gray was #92 this year

#2 of 2022

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In case you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 101 Songs of 2022.

#2 in our Top 101 Songs of 2022 is: “Masquerade” by Bananarama. Click on the name of the song to read about what we originally wrote about the song earlier this year.

Written by: Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward, and Ian Masterson

Produced by: Ian Masterson

Why: Bananarama are amazing and their new album Masquerade is our favourite album of 2022. The single "Masquerade" has been referred to as gothic disco pop, we prefer epic electronica dream pop. It's a song that easy to swept up in. It is glorious!

Watch: The music video is divine. Sara, Keren, and other women (see Alice D) run around a castle and the grounds. It is a video you can watch time and time again. Sara and Keren look absolutely stunning. Check it out on our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube

Live Performance: See Bananarama perform "Masquerade" at one of their album launch shows in London in August.

Chart History: Since we started the music blog, Bananarama have been in our Top 21 countdowns 4 times in past years. Two of those landed at #1. This year, they had 4 songs in our Top 21. Here are past years and previous spots this year ...

Buy: "Masquerade" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today!

#3 of 2022

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In case you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 101 Songs of 2022.

#3 in our Top 101 Songs of 2022 is: “Hypnotized” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor × Wuh Oh.

Why: Sophie finally returned to a full on dance pop song! Of course, she did last year with the remake of Alcazar's "Crying At The Discotheque." But this year, "Hypnotized" just captivated us, you might even say that we were hypnotized.

Watch: The music video is quite good and we love the dance routine. Check it out in our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube

Chart History: This is the first entry from Wuh Oh. Poptastic Confessions has been around since 2011 and we did a Top 21 of 2010. We have featured Sophie's songs over the years, but it has been 10 years since Sophie had a song in our Top 21! This year is also her highest entry! Check out her song history with us ...

"Not Giving Up On Us" with Amrin van Buuren was #15 in 2010

"Starlight" was #21 in 2011

"Young Blood" was #37 in 2013

"Come With Us" was #42 in 2016
