Dear Poptastic Readers,
If you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 101 Songs of 2025. Today we feature the song that just missed our Top 20, and we view this placement as very special, and we always give it a callout.
#21 in Poptastic Confessions Top 101 Songs of 2025 is: "Steppin' Out" by Parralox. Click on the name of the song to see what we said about it earlier this year.
Written by: Joe Jackson
Produced by: John von Ahlen
Why: We loved the 1982 original version of "Steppin' Out" so we were happy about this modern take on it. It was nostalgic, but it also felt brand new. John sounds great on vocals, and the music is a synthpop delight that mixes Italodisco with Cyberpunk. We introduced the song to some friends who didn't know the original and they loved it. Our only complaint is the super-fast fade at the end. It does that in the original, but we would have liked a longer fade or full stop. Still, this is fabulous! We are looking forward to more original Parralox music in 2026.
