Bananadrama and Don't Stop by Big Boy Therapy

Dear Poptastic Readers,

While we were featuring Finnish artist Retropenu 2 weeks ago, we thought about Finnish duo Big Boy Therapy, and noticed that they had a release called "Don't Stop" in February that we missed! D'oh! We meant to feature it last week, but then life happened. Now they have released another new song today called "Bananadrama."

Let's start with "Bananadrama." Even though the artwork features a pear instead of a banana. This song is very frantic with jungle elements. There isn't a vocal melody per se, but more of a spoken word. It definitely is interesting, especially the unexpected synth part near the end, which is quite nice. "Don't Stop" sounds rather industrial pop mixed with a splash of house dance music. Both guys in the group are on the vocals. The music video features a leather guy having a fun time in is car in the winter. We've added the video to our 2026 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Whenever You're Around by Suzette Charles

Dear Poptastic Readers,

This past week, we have heard a lot of buzz about Suzette Charles and her recently released self-titled debut album, which has been 33 years in the making. We were intrigued. Suzette Charles was crowned Miss America in 1984 when Vanessa Williams was forced to resign. She later released her debut single in the UK in 1993 called "Free To Love Again." The song, which was written and produced by the legendary Mike Stock and Pete Waterman of the PWL, and it didn't exactly set the charts on fire. The rest of her album was shelved. Until now. The album is out and the new single is "Whenever You're Around."

"Whenever You're Around" is a sleek pop song with some house and lounge vibes calling from 1993. Having said that, we wouldn't say it sounds dated, but retro. But we are really digging it! It just makes you feel happy. Suzette sounds great. She has filmed a music video where it looks like she is having the time of her life. This makes us very happy. However, fans will notice that this is not a new song, as it was included on his 2016 album Choreography. However, that version was 6-minutes long and the new release is a single mix!

"Where Is The Heartache" is a tears-on-the-dancefloor kind of song. However, it is also uplifting and encouraging. It is about finding the self confidence in yourself and not letting heartache define you. Rob sounds great on this, and the music is really good. We quite like the melody. Representing San Marino in 2026 Eurovision Song Contest this year was Senhit featuring Boy George with a song called "Superstar." Sadly, they didn't make it past the semifinals this week.

"Superstar" is a funky disco track with a great vocal performance from Senhit. It's not really a a proper duet, as Boy George comes out in the middle 8 and stays on the last chorus. Chariots Of Love by Retropenu featuring Drome + 4 other Retropenu songs

Finnish artist Retropenu has a new song out called "Chariots Of Love" featuring Drome. We aren't familiar with Drome, but we have featured Retropenu twice last year with their songs "Masquerade" and "Obsession." However, we saw that this is their third release this year, and we missed one last year. Whoops! We'll catch up below.

"Nightless Boys" was released in April and it was released under the name Nightless Boys, which is a duo made up of Retropenu and Producer Jääskeläinen. There is also a female vocal on the chorus. Swedish songwriter/artist/singer Linda Sonnvik has finally got her 2002 song "Who's Sorry Now?" to be available on digital outlets. Over the years, we have featured songs that Linda has written. They are: "Spellbound" and "Sound Of Summer" by Belle; "Moves Like A Shadow", "Wicked", and "Game Over" by Em Appelgren; "En Stilla Depression" by Lena Philipsson; and "Devilish Dreams" by Emly Clausen.

"Who's Sorry Now?" might be 24 years old, but it still sounds good today. It is Eurodance pop with a strong melody. In fact, Linda won a Swedish song competition with this song! The lyrics are about leaving a relationship and feeling relief with the newfound independence. We quite like this. We happy to bop along in 2026!
