Thinking About... by Slippry Feet

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Once upon a time, there was a British disco duo called Slippry Feet, which members were Jacquie O'Sullivan (formerly of The Shillelagh Sisters and Bananarama) and Paul Simper (author, columnist, and journalist, formerly of No. 1 Magazine). They performed and recorded songs as Slippry Feet from 1992 to 1996, but never was able to release music until their demos were released in 2001 with the album Freak Time Viewing. However, there is a new song! And Poptastic Confessions has the premiere!

Slippry Feet are Paul Simper and Jacquie O'Sullivan

Slippry Feet had some AMAZING songs like "Horny, Hairy & Handsome", "Could Be Raining", and "Slippry Feet Theme" (Click on the song title to see the full video) and many more. You can track down the Freak Time Viewing CD on Discogs, or the songs are on iTunes

Last year in June, Slippry Feet went back in the studio to record a new track "Thinking About..." for the upcoming (now out) book by Paul called Pop Stars In My Pantry: A Memoir of Pop Mags and Clubbing in the 1980s. It was originally called Just Got Lucky: My Life In Pop and we featured the book last year.

The fantastic book was directly funded by readers through a company/website called Unbound. Certain readers like me (Davearama) pledged a certain amount to get the book as well as the new song on CD. Others pledged to get fun stuff from Paul's pop collection, or tickets to the launch party for the book.

Slippry Feet first started work on the song with Alex Godson (ex Eighth Wonder) in 1996. They finally finished demoing it last year with Phil 'Polecat' Bloomberg. And the song has been released year! The result is so wonderful, that it is one of our favourite songs of the year!

I told Paul that more people need to hear this song, so I asked him if I could make a video of it for YouTube featuring photos of Slippry Feet. He agreed. It look a few attempts to get it to where we wanted it, but in the end, both Jacquie and Paul gave their blessing for the video. Enjoy!~

Wasn't that awesome? Yes, it was! Hopefully the song will be on iTunes and Spotify soon! Perhaps this is the start of the Second Act for Slippry Feet! We can only hope!

Be sure to like the official Facebook page of Jacquie O'Sullivan & Slippry Feet. And if you haven't bought Paul's AMAZING book, please order it here. It is deeply fabulous.

Cheers then,
—Davearama

More, More, More by Dagny

Dear Poptastic Readers,

One of our favorite songs this year is "Wearing Nothing" by Dagny. Now the London-based Norwegian singer has covered the disco classic "More, More, More" originally by Andrea True Connection.

Chances are, if you live in the US and watch TV, you might have already heard Dagny's version of "More, More, More" as it is in the new TV ads for Target.

You can listen to Dagny's full version by clicking here. While Dagny's version certainly is catchy, we have to mention some other remakes of the song.

In 2004, former S Club 7 member Rachel Stevens covered it and changed the lyric to "How do you like MY love?" Click here to see a lovely performance of her performing the song on Top Of The Pops. We think we like Dagny's version better.

But our favorite version (Sorry, Dagny) is the 1993 remake by Bananarama. One of the reasons why we love this version the best is that Sara and Keren wrote a second verse for the song (the original just repeats the first verse twice), thus making it their own. Watch the video here ...

Edit: My friend Kirk reminded me that in 1999 the group Len sampled the original version of "More, More, More" for their song "Steal My Sunshine."

Now back to 2017, Dagny's version is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. And for your listening pleasure, we've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Cheers then,
—Davearama

Dancing With A Broken Heart by Steps

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Steps surprised us this week with a brand-new single that is not on their comeback album released in the spring called Tears On The Dancefloor. The new single is called "Dancing With A Broken Heart."

"Dancing With A Broken Heart" is actually a remake of Australian singer and songwriter Delta Goodrem. Delta released her version that she helped write in 2012. You can watch her video for it here

Steps version is a pretty faithful, but less electro and more glorious pop with strings and a euphoric key change.

UPDATE: Check out the Blade Runner/Mad Max–inspired video here ...

And see a live TV performance here.

You can have a listen on our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also find Steps previous three singles there: "Scared Of The Dark", "Story Of A Heart", and "Neon Blue."

The album is being reissued with four new songs. The reissue is being called Tears On The Dancefloor: Crying At The Disco Deluxe Edition. The new version will be available on October 27.

Until then, "Dancing With A Broken Heart" is available on digital outlets everywhere! Buy your copy today!

Cheers then,

Go To Work by Nadine Coyle

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Just in time for the weekend, Nadine has a new single out called "Go To Work." Just who is Nadine Coyle? She was a singer in the UK girl group Girls Aloud. We wrote about them back in October 2012 and their song "Something New" landed at our #10 spot in our 2012 countdown.

"Go To Work" is a piano-led house pop song. It will have you grooving in no time as it isn't too fast or too slow ... just right. UPDATE: Check out the fun video ...

"Go To Work" is available on digital outlets everywhere. We bought it on iTunes this morning and we've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Fantasy by George Michael featuring Nile Rodgers

Dear Poptastic Readers,

George Michael has a newish song out called "Fantasy" and it is fantastically fun that will have you remembering George in all the best ways possible.

"Fantasy" is actually a 1990 b-side song that originally sounded like BlackBox with horny horns. The song was included on two of George's singles "Freedom! '90" and "Waiting For That Day." The new version was given an update by legendary Nile Rodgers. Apparently before George died, he asked Nile to give the song a fresh funky feel to it. And that's just what Nile has done.

October 19, 2017 UPDATE: Yesterday, the official video of "Fantasy" was released on the George Michael VEVO account on YouTube. Check it out ...

Wasn't that awesome? Yes, it was! The new version of "Fantasy" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Cheers then,

Drowning by KREAM & Clara Mae

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Last year we fell in love with "Strip" by Clara Mae. However, at the end of the year last year, we missed Clara Mae's incredible single with KREAM called "Taped Up Heart." We featured the song in February and we have loved it ever since.

KREAM & Clara Mae

Great news! They have teamed up again for a new song called "Drowning."

"Drowning" isn't that far away from "Taped Up Heart." It's a bit down tempo to start, but the beat picks up and the song has a lovely melody. Clara Mae's vocals are quite nice as she seems to wrap her lyrics around the notes and makes it all sound so effortless. The result, is a really nice song. Have a listen ...

"Drowning" is available on digital outlets everywhere. We've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also find "Taped Up Heart" on the playlist, too.

Cheers then,

Release Me by Glass Slipper

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Our favorite deep-house duo released a song this summer called "Release Me" and we forgot to mention it. Whoops!

"Release Me" is a very dark electro number. However, Lisa's soulful vocals always pack a punch. And Bradley's beats will have you mesmerized in no time. Have a listen and get your deep groove on ...

Good news! "Release Me" is available on digital outlets everywhere! And we've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also notice the 3 other songs Glass Slipper have released this year there: "On One", "Cry A Little", and "Mighty Deep."

Cheers then,

Hair Down by Mollie King

Dear Poptastic Readers,

All hair the King! The Saturdays singer Mollie King is back with her second solo song called "Hair Down." Now you might remember Mollie had the epic single out over a year ago called "Back To You."

"Hair Down" is a relentless brassy pop jam filled with "na-na-nas." It certainly is a bop with funny lyrics. Funnily enough, the song reminds us of Girls Aloud, not The Saturdays. And the video is quite nice with Mollie and her dancer troupe swinging their hair around while strutting around in different outfits. This is just a fun song and video. Just have a look ...

Way to go, Mollie! "Hair Down" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Don't delay buy your copy today! And we've added the song to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Cheers then,
—Davearama
