Que Me Duela by Gloria Trevi

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Meet the amazing Mexican pop queen Gloria Trevi! Gloria is one of the most famous celebrities in Mexico and is well known in most of Latin America. She released her first record in 1989 and since then hasn’t left the limelight.

Her life has been surrounded by many scandals and controversies (she was even arrested in Brazil once under accusations of sex trafficking, but has been since acquitted of all charges). Her life has been turned into a movie (a really entertaining one, you must watch!).

Her last project was a duet album with fellow Mexican singer Alejandra Guzmán, which was very nice, but kind of left us eager for another solo album. But now she’s back with “Que Me Duela”, in true Trevi fashion. The song mixes rock and reggaton, styles that Gloria is no stranger to, and it works! The lyrics are about vampires, and how she awaits for one to arrive at her house at night and bite her!

In the music video she tries every wig color you can imagine, drinks a lot of wine (or is that blood?) and dances with a lot of sexy vampires. What else could you ask for? Have a look at the video …

How about that last chorus with that crazy tempo change? It’s things like this that always make us look forward for a new Gloria Trevi record! She’s unpredictable and (almost) always deliver a cool pop song!

“Que Me Duela” is available on digital outlets everywhere. We've added the song to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify! Have a listen ...

Shine on,

—Raoni

Under The Sun by Roosevelt

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Great news! Roosevelt is back with a new song called "Under The Sun" and his sophomore album Young Romance is due out September 28.

If you just asked "Who is Roosevelt?" Well, he is German artist whose real name is Marius Lauber. He released his self-titled debut album (click on that to read Jason's review) in 2016 and it featured the singles "Fever" (#6 in our 2016 countdown), "Night Moves", "Belong", and "Moving On." The whole album was fantastic and such a soundtrack of the time.

Roosevelt's new song "Under The Sun" isn't a million miles away from the sound of the first album, and quite honestly, it is refreshing. If you loved Roosevelt's last album (which hopefully you did), you will love this. It is just the perfect summer cool track. Have a listen ...

September 30 Update: He dropped the video for the song this week. Have a look ...

Jason once described Roosevelt's sound as "Human League at the beach" and that sums it up perfectly. "Under The Sun" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Casually by Alyx Ander & Redondo featuring Maria Z

Dear Poptastic Readers,

What a week! Not only did we celebrate our 7-year anniversary, but we also brought you new music from Carda as well as The Presets. Today, we’d like to introduce you to the new song by Alyx Ander & Redondo featuring Maria Z called “Casually.”

Our Brazilian correspondent Raoni brought this to our attention and we can’t get enough. We had to do some investigating …

Alyx Ander is a handsome Miami-based house DJ and musician originally from New York.

Redondo is a Dutch DJ duo (also both very handsome).

Maria Z is a beautiful LA-based singer originally from Florida.

Now you know the players … on to the song “Casually.” The music is uplifting house pop that will want to have you dancing in no time. The lyrics are about going out of your way to see someone that you like so it looks like you are casually running into them. We’ve all done it! The melody is ace! Just watch the super cute video with Alyx and Maria …

Wasn’t that awesome? Yes, it was. “Casually” is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today so that you can add it to your summer playlist. Speaking of playlists, we’ve added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
—Davearama

Downtown Shutdown by The Presets

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We hope you enjoyed our 7-year anniversary post yesterday. Now on to new music! Over the weekend, Gary sent Sausi this amazing song called “Downtown Shutdown” by The Presets. We are LOVING it!

The Presets are an Australian duo made up of Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton. They formed The Presets in Sydney in 2003. Their latest single “Downtown Shutdown” is the third release from their new album Hi Viz.

“Downtown Shutdown” was inspired by the occupy movement and the way people can be powerful when they come together with a singular purpose. The St Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir from Shepparton in Victoria has many members that are refugees of South Sudan and the Congo. Bass player “Touch Sensitive” is an established D.J and recording artist of dance music. Check out the uplifting video …

Amazing right? “Downtown Shutdown” is available on digital outlets everywhere, as is The Presets new album Hi Viz. Buy your copy today. We’ve added “Downtown Shutdown” to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Love, Truth & Honesty,
—Sausi & Gary

Happy 7th Anniversary!

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy anniversary to us! That’s right. It was 7 years ago today on June 20, 2011 that Davearama made his first post reviewing the Preaching To The Choir EP by Annikafiore. (Come back, mi amore Annikafiore! The pop world misses you!) A lot has happened over the past 7 years! We’d like to thank you for being along for the ride.

Here is some history about the blog: It was originally called Davearama's Guide to Poptastic Music. However, Davearama thought it was a terrible name and he wanted to give the blog an identity that didn't actually focus on him. In March of 2012, he changed the name to Poptastic Confessions.

“I chose the name because admitting that you like glorious pop music can be somewhat of a confession,” Davearama said. “Plus the word poptastic makes me smile.”

Davearama also mentioned that the name paid homage to Bananarama albums Pop Life and True Confessions. He even modeled the Poptastic Confessions logo after Bananarama’s album WOW!

In 2016, Davearama opened Poptastic Confessions to have more regular contributors. Raoni, Norm, Nick, Jason, Gary, Arturo, and Sausi, and some others that are behind the scenes help bring the music to you.

Over the past 7 years, we’ve used social media to drive viewers to the blog. We have a Facebook page, playlists on Spotify, and this past week we opened an Instagram account. Today, we announce our official Twitter page, which will be run by Sausi O'Sullivan. Please follow us and like and share our posts!

Our mission is to highlight music that isnt heard by the masses. Sometimes that means indie pop, other times it is artists who were popular in the past, or dance pop. Although pop is our first love, we feel that it encompasses many musical styles. We have featured R&B, soul, deep house, country, and even rock. There really is so much good music out there.

We were asked this last year if we get paid for promoting the music. We don't. We do this for free out of love for the music. Sometimes we get to know the artists, and that is really cool. Although we also have to remain objective, especially for our year-end countdown.

Our busiest time of the year is definitely in December. If you are new to Poptastic Confessions, then you should know that every December we do a countdown of our favourite songs that we featured in the blog from the last year. It pretty much takes up the entire month. We start planning ahead in November. December is also the month we get the most views on our blog. Check out our #1 songs over the years ...

We use to have more interviews, and that has fallen by the wayside the past couple of years. We are sorry that we haven't had any recent interviews and we will try and do some more soon. If you missed any of the interviews, check these out …

Annikafiore formerly of Alcazar

Ani Saunders (AKA Ani Glass) formerly of The Pipettes

Gwenno formerly of The Pipettes

*Interviews that Davearama did before the blog.

One of our proudest legacies about the blog is that the delicious deep house duo Glass Slipper formed because Davearama’s friend Brad read the interview with Lisa and saw that they lived in the same city. He contacted her and the rest is history. Lisa calls Davearama their fairy god mother. He loves it!

We also love hearing back from the readers of how much they like new artists because of our posts. So don’t hesitate to let us know! If you know of some great music that we aren’t highlighting, please tell us. We may even ask you to write a review!

Thanks again for being a part of the Poptastic Confessions community. Be sure to check out these links. Please like and share our posts so that more people hear the music!
