The Passion (Brian Power Mix) by Jody Watley & SRL

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Jody Watley & SRL have delivered us a treat just in time for the weekend. It's a lounge/house remix of "The Passion" by Brian Power.

Back in July, they released the original version of "The Passion." It is an easy going song. The new Brian Power Remix takes the song to place with lots of house beats and lounge elements. We love it. The only thing missing is Rosero's solo rap bit. There is a radio remix and an extended remix. Have a listen ...

Wasn't that nice? Yes, it was.
"The Passion" (Brian Power Remix) is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today to help support the artists. We've added the song to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear the original version of "The Passion" and Jody Watley's single from this year "Waiting In Vain" there, too. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Busted by Bowie Jane

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Yesterday, we just happened to stumble across a song called "Busted" by Bowie Jane and we quite like it. We hope you will, too.

Who is Bowie Jane? Well, apparently a criminal lawyer, a DJ, a singer, a songwriter, and producer. The song was released back in April so we are a bit late to the party. Better late than never. The song "Busted" is about having an affair with a man who is about to get married to someone else. Check out the video ...

"Busted" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Nunca Nadie Pudo Volar by La Casa Azul

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The Spanish artist La Casa Azul has just released their new single: “Nunca Nadie Pudo Volar” (Nobody Could Ever Fly). It’s the fourth single from their long-awaited fifth album La Gran Esfera (The Big Sphere).

La Casa Azul is the stage name of producer Guille Milkyway. When he started his career, he was too shy to be front man and instead had 5 teenagers acting as the band. It wasn’t a Milli Vanilli situation, though, as it was announced from the start that it was Guille singing and playing the songs. With every release, Guille became more confident and the kids were dumped occasionally.

Guille Milkyway

Most of his back catalogue had a very strong 60s or 70s influence, and only for this new album he began trying on more current sounds. In this new single, you can feel the disco influence, but it does sound like a modern song. The lyrics in Spanish are about a boy who always wanted to fly but others wouldn’t let him. The metaphor becomes cleared in the video, as it shows a gay boy who is prevented from living his live the way he wants it, until he has to run away so he can do it. It’s a bit sad how a long time passed since Bronski Beat had a music video with almost the same storyline, but it still feels current. Check out the video here …

The new album by La Casa Azul, La Gran Esfera, still has no release date, but we hope it’s really soon, as this single left us wanting more! We’ve added “Nunca Nadie Pudo Volar” to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Check it out!

Shine on,
Raoni

Beautiful Heights by Francine Belle

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Francine Belle has finally released her debut solo single "Beautiful Heights." Poptastic Confessions has been following her career since 2012! How so? Keep on reading ...

In November of 2012, Davearama interviewed Felix from the-now-defunct-Swedish-pop-group Le Kid (Ed. note: Felix is now in RABBII). During the interview, Davearama asked Felix about his involvement in a side project called Dream Beats with producer Anders Hansson. Felix told him about the song Dream Beats did over the summer with a group called The Face. The song was called "Love Stuck."

Francine, Tamer, and Christie were The Face

"Love Stuck" by Dream Beats featuring The Face (Poptastic Confessions #9 song of 2012) was the first time we heard of Francine. They only had this one single. However, their SoundCloud page is still up and you can hear some of their demos. (Ed. note: Their demo "Learning To Dance" was rerecorded by Christie and the Dream Beats.) The Face went their separate ways soon afterwards. (Ed. note: Christie and the Dream Beats have been our our year-end countdown twice: "It Wasn't My Fault" was #6 in 2016, and "My Boyfriend's Clothes" was #14 in 2017.)

From there, we just happened to follow Francine on Twitter. In the summer of 2014, we saw that she had a new song "Crying On The Dancefloor" with a group called Parralox. We were completely obsessed with the song, and it became Poptastic Confessions #2 song of 2014. In hindsight, it probably should have been #1. We really have to thank Francine for leading us to Parralox. (Ed. note: Parralox would finally get the year-end #1 song in 2017 with "Electric Nights.")

After that, Francine worked as a backing vocalist for Elton John and Bright Light Bright Light. In February of 2017, we featured Francine as one of 10 Strong Black Women to keep an eye on as part of Black History Month

So now the time has come for Francine to finally release her debut single. "Beautiful Heights" is a soulful pop song that mixes a capella with Afrobeats. It has a soaring vocal melody, which Francine wrote and produced. "The song came to me in a dream almost fully formed — chorus melody and lyrics. I rolled over in bed, grabbed my phone, and recorded the voicenote before promptly falling back asleep. I think I still have the voicenote, with yawns in it and everything." Have a listen and watch the stunning video ...

Wasn't that lovely? Yes, it was! What a voice! The beau was super hot, too! Did you watch to the very end? You should. "Beautiful Heights" is available on digital outlets everywhere. We can't stress this enough: Please buy the song so that the artist gets proceeds. Streaming is nice, but purchasing is better! We've gone ahead and added the song to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
—Davearama

P.S. We almost forgot to tell you that you can hear another new song by Francine on her Soundcloud page. The song is called "Wicked Boys" and it is FAB! Have a listen clicking on the song name. Hopefully we can download it soon, too.

Rooftop by Clara Mae

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Clara Mae is back with her third single of the year. "Rooftop" is the latest single from her upcoming EP Sorry For Writing All The Songs About You.

The EP name is rather amusing if you think about her previous singles: "I'm Not Her" (from the end of last year), "I Forgot", and her duet with Jake Miller "Better Me Better You." All of these songs must have been written about the same person, so you can guess that "Rooftop" is also about a relationship gone bad. Clara Mae gives a lovely performance. Check out the video here ...

Getaway by Roosevelt

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Roosevelt has released another song from his upcoming sophomore album. The new song is called "Getaway" and the album Young Romance will be released on September 28.

You might remember that in June we featured Roosevelt's first single "Under The Sun" off the new album. He released another song in August called "Forgive" featuring Washed Out, but we forgot to feature it.

So what about "Getaway"? It starts off with a steady electro beat while long chords come in. Roosevelt delivers an emotional delivery. The song has a build that really comes to full effect after the first chorus. Overall, it just really is a pleasant pop song. Have a listen ...

Wasn't that nice? Yes, it was. "Getaway" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear "Under The Sun" there. And we'll even toss in "Forgive."

Golden Child by Say Lou Lou

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The dream pop duo Say Lou Lou are back with an dark, epic song called "Golden Child." You can sort of tell by the cover art, this isn't bubblegum.

"Golden Child" is a guitar-driven affair that might even remind you of The Eagles for a moment before the twin sisters start singing. The song is dreamy, but with dark tones. The video is a bit dramatic. Take a look ...

"Golden Child" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added the song to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo.
