Dear Poptastic Readers, In December, during the countdown of our Top 100 Songs of 2019, we learned that Daphne & Celeste released a single for their song "A.L.T.O." It is from their 2018 comeback album Daphne & Celeste Save The World. We meant to feature the new single in early January. Whoops! We forgot. Better late than never!
"A.L.T.O" is a strange song, but a great one! We really have no idea what it is even about. We tried looking up the lyrics online, but no luck. Thankfully, we bought the vinyl album and it had the lyrics. We've read them through and still have no idea what it is about. No matter. With the awesome bassline and chaotic structure — it is deeply fab, even if it is 2 years old. Have a listen ...
Wasn't that fun? Yes, it was. Go ahead, listen again. You know you want to. "A.L.T.O" was written and produced by Max Tundra. The single also had a remix by David Shrigley & Lee Baker. Listen to the remix here ...
Dear Poptastic Readers, La Roux has released the third single from her upcoming Supervision album. The new single is called "Automatic Driver."
"Automatic Driver" is a mid-tempo number where singer Elly carries the melody over steadymusic that starts building up after the first chorus. The music video is a colorful golfing affair. Have a look ...
"Automatic Driver" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear 2 other La Roux songs there, too. Woo!
La Roux's social media calls "Automatic Driver" the final single from the forthcoming album, which doesn't seem like a good sign of things to come in 2020. We'll have to wait and see ... Dear Poptastic Readers, Last week, Carda released a new song with singer Emily Falvey called "Wasted." We are loving it, and we think you will, too. Fun fact: Carda and Emily haven't met. Carda is Australian, and Emily is from Nashville, Tennessee. They collaborated online. FAB!
"Wasted" is a heartfelt song with emotional lyrics about using someone. The music is dance pop and sounds fantastic. This is the first we have heard of Emily and she gives a wonderful vocal delivery. We are hooked. Watch the lyric video here ...
"Wasted" was written by Carda, Austin Bianco, Emily Falvey, and Jeremy Drakeford. It was produced by Carda himself. "Wasted" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo!
Dear Poptastic Readers, One of our favorite singers Clara Mae has new song out with R3HAB and Frank Walker called "More Than OK." We featured R3HAB last year with his collaboration with Icona Pop. We are new to Frank Walker.
"More Than OK" is a smart dance-pop song. It starts off a bit soft, and Clara draws us into the story with her captivating vocals. By the chorus the song is in euphoric mode and we love it. Our only complaint is that it is under 3 minutes. We have to play it again and again. Check out the lush official music video ...
"More Than OK" was written by Cassandra Strömberg, Clara Mae, R3HAB, Ferruccio Tebaldi, Frank Walker, Lewis Hughes, Maria Smith, Nick Audino, and Victor Thell. It was produced by R3HAB. "More Than OK" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~
Dear Poptastic Readers, Dolly Style hits 2020 head on with a brand-new pop banger called "FRKN Perfect" and it has that classic Dolly Style pop sound we've loved over the years, all while sounding new and fresh. You are going to love it! We do.
"FRKN Perfect" is an anthem for self empowerment. The lyrics are about believing in yourself and breaking free from things/people that takes away your energy instead of giving it. We've had this on constant repeat. Hopefully a music video is on the way. Until then, check out this cute fan-made lyric video ...
UK singer Louise has just released her brand new studio album Heavy Love. And it’s her first one in 20 years!
Louise first became famous in the early 90s as part of the girl group Eternal. She was in the group only during their first album Always and Forever, which included some excellent singles such as “Stay” (a top 20 hit in the US), “Just a Step From Heaven”, “Save Our Love”, “So Good”, and “Crazy.” She left the group after a string of UK top 20 singles and was launched as a solo act.
As a solo artist, she had 3 top 20 albums and 12 top 20 singles in the UK. Her last single was “Pandora’s Kiss” in 2003. It was supposed to be the lead single from her fourth record, but then it was unfortunately cancelled, and we heard no more from her. In 2017, she came back for a tour in the UK, which was successful and led to her recording new songs for a new album!
The first single in 2019 was “Stretch,” a kind of funky song, which was VERY Louise, but at the same time didn’t sound dated at all. She recorded a sexy video for it. A very nice Initial Talk remix was also released, which was a cool nod to Louise’s time with Eternal.
The second song released (though it wasn’t really considered a single, maybe a buzz track?) was “Small Talk”, which sounded a bit more contemporary than “Stretch” and showed a bit more of the direction she was moving into.
The third song (and actual second single) was the banger “Lead Me On.” Produced by Clean Bandit, it’s a perfect summer song. The video is very summer-ish and shows Louise dancing with her partner.
Next track released was the ballad “Breaking Back Together.” It’s proof that even staying away from music for more than a decade, Louise’s voice is still very enjoyable, even for a sad song like this.
“Not The Same” was next in line, sounding nothing like the other songs. It’s another banger. Even though the lyrics are sad, about a person who feels their partner is getting distant, it’s a very uplifting song.
“Hammer” was the 6th pre-album release song. Written by Louise with a songwriting team than includes Hannah Robbinson (responsible for many amazing songs by artists such as Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Annie) this song feels like a nod to Eternal as it is a bit funky, a little bit RnB, and it might be one of the best vocal performances in the record. She recorded a video in the studio to go with it.
The 7th and last song to be released before the album was “Hurt.” This might be our favorite! A tears on the dancefloor anthem, this song would not feel out of place on a Kylie Minogue record.
Heavy Love features a fusion of many styles of pop music. Some of the album tracks are not as instant as most of the singles and are somewhat calmer, like “Just a Minute” and “Wonder Woman”, but they present another side of the singer and are a nice balance to the more dance-y songs on the first half of the album. Of all the newest songs, our favorite is “Straight to My Heart.” With a happier theme, this disco-influenced banger could be yet another single off the album.
It’s so good to see an amazing popstar such as Louise return unashamedly to pop music after such a long time. But it’s even better to see that she returned with a mission to record songs that are so good! Heavy Lovemight be Louise’s best album, it’s diversity and cohesiveness already make it an early contender for this year’s best albums lists!
Dear Poptastic Readers, It has been awhile since we heard from Ani Glass. She's back with a lovely song called "Miores" and that is Welsh for Mirrors. It was written and produced by Ani, too.
"Miores" a wonderful slice of electropop! It is mostly sung in Welsh, there are a few English words. It has such a great beat and melody that you just want to sing and dance along. Ani's vocals are great too — she soars during the chorus. The music video is quite a visual treat! Have a look ...
Wasn't that fun? Ani is so good about the spoken middle 8. "Miores" is available to purchase on digital outlets. Please buy the track so that she can continue making more fabulous music. We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~
