Great news! Sporty Spice Melanie C has a new song out with Anna Lunoe called "Girl." It has been since 2021 since we last heard from Melanie. We weren't familiar with Anna, so we looked her up and found out that she is an Australian, LA-based DJ and music producer.

Over the weekend, Alcazar singer Andreas Lundstedt competed in Sweden's Melodifestivalen with a song called "Vicious." Melodifestivalen is Sweden's song competition to see who represents the country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Andreas came in 3rd place and didn't qualify for the second chance. No matter.

Swedish artist Clara Mae has done another dance collaboration with Frank Walker and the new song is called "Hurricane." Clara and Frank had a song together in 2020 with R3HAB called "More Than OK", which was #9 in our Top 101 Songs of 2020. Clara Mae also had a song out last month called "Growing Pains."

"Hurricane" is a dance song about heartbreak, which comes as no surprise if you are fan of Clara Mae. We often call her our Queen of Broken Hearts. Dear Poptastic Readers,

While we were completely in love with Dolly Style's Melodifestivalen entry, we also quite liked "24K Gold" by Malou Prytz, which came in 3rd place in the round and didn't qualify for a second chance. No matter, we quite liked it. We weren't familiar with Malou, but she first competed in Melodifestivalen in 2019 with a song called "I Do Me" when she was 15 years old.

"24K Gold" is a fun electropop song with big vocals from Malou. The chorus is super catchy and the music is quite dynamic. There is a key change. We've added her performance at Melodifestivalen to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Kylie Minogue dropped a new single on Friday and it isn't from her latest album Tension II. The track with with Alok and it is called "Last Night I Dreamt I Fell In Love." Alok is a Brazilian music producer. 

"Last Night I Dreamt I Fell In Love" is a fun dance pop bop. Kylie sounds great. Our only complaint is that the song is too short, as it clocks in just over 2 minutes. We've added the music video to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ....

Yihaa by Dolly Style

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sweden's sugary sweet girl group Dolly Style have competed in Sweden's Melodifestivalen this year with a song called "Yihaa." This is their fourth time participating in Melodifestivalen. Their previous entries included: "Hello Hi" in 2015, "Rollercoaster" in 2016, and "Habibi" in 2019. The group has had various lineups over the years, and we have a little history of the group at the end of this post.

"Yihaa" is fun, fun, fun. As you can tell by the cover, and the name of the song title, there is a cowgirl theme. The song definitely has a country music vibe, but it is definitely very pop dance, too. There is also a glorious key change near the end. They came in 2nd place in their round, which means they have a second chance. We think they were the best of the night, but no matter. Teardrop by Parralox

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Parralox has just released a new single today called "Teardrop" and it is a remake originally done by Massive Attack. This is the second single from their upcoming Holiday '24 album.

We weren't familiar with the original version, so we went and had a listen. We think Parralox does faithful job covering the song, but their version feels a bit more lush. Louise Love returns to take lead vocals and it is wonderful to have her back. The music video is a nod to the Massive Attack video. We've added it to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

On And On And On by Klara Hammarström

Last weekend was Sweden's second round of Melodifestivalen, which is the country's selection process to choose the song that will represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest. The best entry for us this round was "On And On And On" by Klara Hammarström. Klara has competed in Melodifestivalen 3 times before. Her biggest hit (#1) in Sweden was in 2022 with "Run To The Hills."

"On And On And On" is an epic pop song that starts off a slow and builds and builds until it becomes dance-pop banger for the chorus. The tempo goes up and and down several times, but then it has a big cresendo near the end getting tempo back up fast. You can watch the lyric video here, but we have added her Melodifestivalen performance to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist. She came in 2nd place and she will advance to the final round.

Enjoy Youth by Bright Light Bright Light and Donna Lewis

Bright Light Bright Light has released a new single "Enjoy Youth" from his latest album by the same name. The new single version is a duet with Welsh artist Donna Lewis, who is best known for her 1996 hit "I Love You Always Forever." The album version was a duet with American singer Beth Hirsh and there was a part that was sung in French. The new single recording is called Welsh Version because the French part is now in Welsh. If you didn't know, both artists are from Wales. The majority of the song is sung in English.
