Better by Jack Garratt

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We found out about this one with Instagram ad! Yes, they sometimes work. This exciting new song is called "Better" by Jack Garratt. We didn't know Jack (LOL), so we looked him up. He is a singer/songwriter from England who had some success with this debut album in 2016 called Phase.

"Better" is a glorious pop song that you might as well consider it a dance pop song. Jack has a super strong voice, and this has a chorus that is just euphoric. The video is quite interesting, too. Have a look ...

"Better" was written by Henry Brill and Jack Garratt. It was produced by Jack Garratt and James Flannigan. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Stop & Go by Magdalena Bay

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The duo Magdalena Bay has been on our radar for over a year and we have featured quite a few songs of theirs in Poptastic Confessions. They have a new song out called "Stop & Go" from their new album A Little Rhythm And A Wicked Feeling. We are really enjoying it.

"Stop & Go" is a fun pop song with a wonderful melody and some marching band drums! The music video for the song incorporates some of their fans sending in videos of them singing along. But unlike most fan videos, this has Magdalena Bay interacting with them. The result is so clever! Have a look ...

Fun video and FABULOUS song! We love it. "Stop & Go" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. It was written and produced by Matthew Lewin and Mica Tenebaum (aka Magdalena Bay). We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo!

Lioness by Alice D

Dear Poptastic Readers,

On Friday, Alice D released her latest EP called Lioness. We've been listening to it all weekend and we love it. We hope you will, too.

Now if you just asked "Who is Alice D?" Well, pay attention! We've been featuring her music for 6 years now since her debut in 2014! We absolutely loved her songs "Moving On" (our #8 song of 2014), "Only You" (our #11 song of 2016), "More 2 U" (our #18 song of 2018), and "Offline" (our #14 song of 2019). Not only that, Poptastic Confessions was Alice's first interview ever! Woo!

The EP starts off with her fantastic single from February called "Forever Mine." We absolutely love "Forever Mine." It's one of those songs that slowly takes you over and before you know it, you are singing all the ad libs! Alice wrote the song with Oscar Scheller, who also produced the track. Watch the stunning music video here ...

The next 4 songs were all written by Alice D and James Mackenzie Robinson, who also produced them, too. First up is "Karma."

This is really good and the lyrics are spot on. It's about all the negative people out there. We all know the ones who go on social media and leave nasty comments. We always think their negative comments say more about themselves than who the comments are directed to. Alice has some similar thoughts and wishes them well.

The third song is "All For You" is a jam. And it is a love song! It is easy going and very sweet. Alice really has a way of pulling us in with her vocal delivery. The RnB vibes here are just perfect.

"You Were Never Really Here" is a the ballad of the group. It is heartfelt song looking back on a relationship that didn't last. Bittersweet, but also empowering words for anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation. This is another fine example of Alice's writing skills. She is wise beyond her years.

"Brand New" made us sit up and take notice. It is an upbeat track about moving on with your life. We really, really love this one. Makes you feel like strutting down a runway (if only in your mind), or in this current pandemic ... dancing around your house. We are a bit guilty!

Overall, Lioness is amazing EP and Alice has really made some wonderful music here. It is available for purchase on digital outlets everywhere. Please buy your copy today as it really helps out independent artists like Alice D. You can listen to Lioness on Spotify here ...

We've added "Karma" and "Brand New" to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Kingdom Come (SoundFactory Remix) by Anna Bergendahl

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Back in February, Swedish artist Anna Bergendahl competed in Sweden's Melodifestivalen with a song called "Kingdom Come." If you aren't familiar with Melodifestivalen, it is Sweden's selection of songs that will represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Eurovision was cancelled.

When we first heard the song, we liked it well enough. It sort of has that power ballad sound to it. Check out Anna's great performance at Melodifestivalen.

That was nice. Anna actually came in 3rd place in Melodifestivalen with the song. But then Sound Factory sent us their mixes, and suddenly we love it more than ever. There are 4 mixes and this one does it for us. Check it out ...

"Kingdom Come" was written by Anna Bergendahl, Bobby Ljunggren, Erik Bernholm, and Thomas G:son. It was produced by Erik Bernholm. Obviously, the remix was done by Sound Factory. We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Message In A Bottle by All Saints & Sting

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Nearly two years after the release of their fifth album Testament, the mighty All Saints — Shaznay, Melanie, Nicole and Natalie — are back once again with the surprise release of their new single. It’s a cover of The Police classic “Message In A Bottle” — featuring none other than Sting himself!

The original was a UK #1 hit for The Police back in 1979 (It stalled in the US at #74). All Saints originally performed their cover at the charity concert Children In Need Rocks back in 2018, before including it in the setlist for their summer shows last year. They decided to lay down a recording earlier this year, then once Sting heard the demo he offered to add his own vocals, resulting in their new single.

Lyrically, the song is timely since it is a pretty good analogy to what is going on in the world right now. A castaway on an island sends out a message in a bottle to find love. A year later, with no response received, he thinks he is destined to be alone. Then he sees “a hundred billion bottles” on the shore and discovers that there are more people like him out there. It is a nice reminder that we are not alone during this time, since we are all facing this global pandemic together.

All Saints are: Natalie, Melanie, Shaznay, and Nicole

This recording has a different arrangement to the live versions All Saints previously performed and is slightly more downbeat. With its Ska feel, it would sound perfectly in place on their third album Studio 1 from 2006. It is extremely radio-friendly and bound to capture the Radio 2 audience in the UK. The only disappointment is that the vocals are mostly dominated by Shaznay. It made a refreshing change to hear more of Nicole and Natalie on the last two albums, however they are barely audible in this.

It’s fantastic to have some new music from All Saints, even if current circumstances prevent us from having an accompanying music video (however, there is a great lyric video using the font from the first album era for an extra touch of nostalgia). Once this testing time is over, it will be great to see All Saints perform the song together again and follow this up with the release their much-anticipated sixth album.

"Message In A Bottle" was written by Sting. The All Saints version was produced by Future Cut, Iyiola Babalola, and Darren Lewis. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Suga by Whigfield

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Whigfield is back with the Whigfield name, after using her real name Sannie for a few single releases. Her latest release is called "Suga."

Apparently the song was sent out months ago with a mysterious ID. Without knowing who the real artist was, the track soared in the worldwide dance charts. It was reveled at the end of March, that the artist was indeed Whigfield.

Perhaps you don't know Whigfield, but you might know her 1993 smash hit "Saturday Night." She had lots of other hits around Europe in the 90s, but this was her biggest hit ...

Her last album W was released in 2012. It is still an album we play often. We wrote a review that year, and then in 2013 we wrote a plea for there to be more singles from the fantastic album. She had 1 song in our Top 20 countdown in 2012:

Sannie started using her real name on these 3 singles over the past 4 years ...

That leads us to "Suga" ... It is a really fun track. The verses remind us of Robyn's "Konichiwa Bitches." However, it is unique in its own way. Check out the fun lyric video ...

Wasn't that fun? Yes, it was! "Suga" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
