Neon Nights Bananarama Special #2 Podcast

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Davearama, here. Back in February, I went to Australia to see Bananarama on tour. I also got to meet John of Parralox and Costa. Both John and Costa host a show on Australia's LGBTQ Radio Station Joy 94.9 called Neon Nights. Last year in February, I called in to their first radio special that featured Bananarama. Since I was in Melbourne, John and Costa booked some studio time for another Bananarama special.

First of all, I loved Australia. If you haven't been, check it out. I was only in Melbourne and Sydney, but Melbourne captured my heart. The people are so friendly. I had actually met up with Costa first for dinner. The next day I met John for coffee. It was so nice to finally meet both in person.

For the interview, we met up at the Joy 94.9 studio in the evening. Beforehand, I sent them a list of songs I thought might be fun to highlight. The last show we did we featured all of the big hits. This time, I thought it might be fun to focus on some of their 90s and 00s catalogue. Unfortunately, we didn't have access to the new album In Stereo when recorded the show, but we did include "Dance Music." Also, when recorded it, we thought it would be on the air in April, so there is a funny moment when John asked me when the album would be released.

Costa surprised me by adding an unreleased track and a demo to the list of songs. I immediately got that panicked feeling like we shouldn't be doing this. However, most fans already have copies and they are on YouTube, so there wasn't much I could do about it except go along.

I Think We're Alone Now (2019 Version) by Tiffany

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Former 80s teen sensation Tiffany has a new song out and it is a new take on the classic hit that helped make her star: "I Think We're Alone Now."

"I Think We're Alone Now" was originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells and was a US #4 hit for them in 1967. And 20 years later in 1987, Tiffany's cover spent 2 weeks at #1 in the US. Another notable cover was from UK girl group Girls Aloud who covered the song in 2006 and took it to #4 in the UK. Funny, how both went to #4, and Tiffany went to #1.

So what's Tiffany's new version like? Well, it's a bit rocky. It's a bit boppy. It's a bit dance-y. But most of all, it really features Tiffany's amazing strong vocals. She is a powerhouse! She is a much better singer than she was back in the 80s, and was good then. Check out the new music video ...

New York City by Kylie Minogue

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We meant to post this on Friday, but life got busy. Kylie Minogue dropped a new single called "New York City." Last year, Kylie took her fans on a country music journey with her album Golden. This new song is back to her pop roots.

"New York City" is also the new track on a new best-of Kylie compilation called Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection. So what's new new song like? Well, it's a bit sassy with the verses, and then the chorus gives a great melody with a very catchy chorus. Have a listen ...

Happy May! We've got some great news: The Queen of Cool, Jody Watley has a new song out with Brian Power called "Good Good Reason." Back in January we featured our Top 60 Jody Watley songs for her birthday. If you missed it, please check it out!

Who is Brian Power? Well, he's a DJ, a producer, and owner of Soul House Music. You might remember that he remixed Jody Watley & SRL's single "The Passion" last year and made it lounge house anthem.

Medellín by Madonna featuring Maluma

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Madonna is back with a brand-new album in June called Madame X and the first single is a duet with Columbian reggaeton singer Maluma called "Medellín." Now in case you didn't know, Medellín is a city in Columbia.

The duet is in English and in Spanish. This isn't a banger, or fun poppy song.
It is a mid-tempo number that is very sexy. It has a nice melody. And the song tells a story and if you don't speak Spanish, you can still figure out half of it.

Off Limits by Allysandra

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We are happy to announce the debut single "Off Limits" from Swedish singer Allysandra. While it is her solo debut, Allysandra has been featured many times before in Poptastic Confessions because up until this time last year, she was the original Holly in Dolly Style.

That's right! Allysandra left the group last spring and is now focusing on her solo career. So what does "Off Limits" sound like? Well, initially we weren't exactly sure about the "Off off off off off off off limits" part. However, by the end of the song we were on board. It is a fun, cute song with lots of interesting elements. The video is quite colorful — including some pastels, but you won't see her in a blue pastel wig! Ha! Have a look ...
