We R by Dolly Style

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sweden's pastel wig–wearing girl group Dolly Style have released a new song called "We R" and it is a sugary sweet slice of pop.

"We R" starts off with a fantastic strings bit and the beat kicks in for the chorus. The lyrics are about self empowerment. Check out the cute music video ...

"We R" was written by Caroline Aronsson and Palle Hammarlund. Palle also produced the track.  We've added it to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear their previous 2021 single "Kick It & Break It" there. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Dance Floor Darling by Kylie Minogue

Dear Poptastic Readers,

While there is no official word from Kylie Minogue, it seems that BBC Radio 2 in the UK have been playing Kylie's song "Dance Floor Darling"! Woo! Some fans hearing it say the single version sounds different from the album version. However, there is no single version to download or stream (yet).

"Dance Floor Darling" is a definite stand-out track on Kylie's latest album Disco. We wish the chorus came in again before tempo goes a bit bonkers at the end. There isn't an official music video, but Kylie has put out a dancing video with classic footage of people dancing. Check out the video here ...

"Dance Floor Darling" was written by Kylie, Maegan Cottone, Sky Adams, and Linslee Campbell. It was produced by Sky Adams. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Bad Dream By Cannons

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The LA-based trio, Cannons, have a dreamy new single called “Bad Dream.” We really like and think you will, too. Our contributor Jason F wrote this piece to tell us about the group.

Cannons was formed in 2013 when musicians and childhood friends Ryan Clapham (guitarist) and Paul Davis (keyboardist/drummer) connected with Florida-transplant Michelle Joy (vocalist) via Craigslist through a shared affinity for an obscure band called Trust.

Their sound is somewhat hard to define but has evolved somewhat from chillwave to what they themselves half-jokingly label as “future boogie” — which is as good a term as any to describe their synth-laden grooves.

The group has steadily built a following by independently releasing multiple singles, EPs and albums, but their big breakthrough came last year when their single, “Fire For You” from their excellent 2019 album, Shadows, was prominently featured in an episode of the buzzy Netflix series, Never Have I Ever. Interesting note: The song was used on set to help the actors get into the mood of their scenes, which inspired the show’s creators to ultimately incorporate it into the finished episode.

This exposure, coupled with an arresting, well-conceived music video to accompany the single, boosted the band’s profile significantly and garnered attention from major labels, which has led to them being recently signed by Columbia Records. Word of mouth continues to spread with the likes of no less than Elton John and Courtney Love singing the band’s praises. Check out the video for “Fire For You” here ...

Cannons are currently working on their new forthcoming album. In the meantime, they have just released a fantastic, 80s-leaning single called “Bad Dream.” The video is another top-notch effort with a similar cinematic approach as their “Fire For You” video but with a narrative that borrows from serial killer/horror-movie tropes complete with a perfect “twist” ending. Have a look ...

Both “Fire For You” and “Bad Dream” were written and produced by Cannons. They are both available on digital outlets everywhere. Support the artists and buy your copies today! We've added both songs to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify

Only Your Love,

P.S.S. The group has also recently been releasing a series of “Covers by Cannon” on YouTube. It’s a testament to the band’s clarity of vision and commitment to their sound that they are able to put their own signature stamp on other artists’ songs in a distinctive and convincing way that complements rather than imitates the original renditions. Check these covers out ...

Where The Wildflowers Grow by Alice D

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Last week, Alice D released a 3-track EP called "Where The Wildflowers Grow" and we just got around to listening to it this week. We quite like it, and think you will too.

Overall, the EP is a relaxing affair. It has groovey rhythms, beautiful melodies, and chill vibes. Just so happens that we are vacationing/visiting family in Costa Rica right now, so the timing for this EP to be the soundtrack of our tropical stay is quite nice.

"Paper Roses" is the first track and it is a breezy fantastic song. It has a wonderful feeling about it ... like the perfect summer song while sipping a piña colada by a pool. We are getting serious Sade vibes and loving it.

"Diamond" is the second track. It is also her latest single that we featured back in mid-March. Click here to hear what we wrote about it.

The third and final track is "Fairy Tales." Another fantastic tune that explores some interesting rhythms. This is a love song and Alice gives another fantastic vocal performance.

All 3 songs were written by Alice and Tim Blok. The EP was produced by AKA Block. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Support Alice D by purchasing your copy today. "Diamond" was already on our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. We've added "Paper Roses" and "Fairy Tales." If that isn't enough, you'll also hear Alice's previous single "Drunk Talk" there. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Fallback by Isle Of You

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish duo Isle Of You is back with new music. HOORAY! Their new single is called "Fallback." If you missed their fantastic debut album Party Until We're In Love in 2019, then click on the link and read our review. And check out our interview with them, too. We fell absolutely in love with the duo and we are so excited for new music from them this year.

So what is "Fallback" like? It's like a space-age ballad that packs a punch. The chorus has a glorious key change. There is something MAGICAL about the rhyming of the bridge that gets us every time. Lyrically the song is asking your lover not to have a backup plan. Ida and Elina give an emotional vocal performance. Welcome back, Isle Of You!

***UPDATE: APRIL 29, 2021***

Isle Of You have just released their music video for "Fallback." It is a stunning visual affair that will make you want to watch over and over. Please do. And click the like button on YouTube! There is something abut Elina and Ida's friendship that comes across so strongly in their music videos. We just love them. Have a look ...

"Fallback" was written by Elina Danielsson, Ida Johansson, (Isle Of You), and Herman Gardarfve, who also produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Stream the music when you can, but also buy the music to help support the artists. We've added "Fallback" to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,
