"The Great Unknown" has that classic 80s synthpop sound that Peter and his fans have fully embraced. It definitely is a fun dance pop track with a catchy melody, even if the lyrics are a bit sad. But they are also inspiring, too. Have a listen ...

Purple Zone by Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Eighties synthpop legends Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys have teamed up for a new single called "Purple Zone" and it was released this week. It was written and produced by Soft Cell, but it has a very Pet Shop Boys sound to it. The song appears on Soft Cell's first new album in 20 years and the album is called Happiness Not Included.

Don't be fooled by the uplifting music, "Purple Zone" actually has some deeper lyrics and a bit on the dark side. The lyrics are looking back on your life and wondering how you got to where you are now. But in that moment, there is also a sense of liberation. Check out the music video, which features both Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys.

"Purple Zone" was written by David Ball, Marc Almond, Riccardo Hugh Michael Mulhall. It was produced by David Ball, Marc Almond, and Philip Larsen. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify, which also features some songs released at the end of 2021. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music. Please do so!

Do You Remember? by Darren Hayes

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Darren Hayes is back with a new song called "Do You Remember?" This follows his previous single "Let's Try Being In Love", which was Darren's first single in 10 years.

"Do You Remember?" is dance pop track with lots of synths with a funky bass. The lyrics talk about what it was like back in the 90s. The music video is very fun and clever. We quite like this. Have a look ...

Nightfall Feelings by Pure Shores

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish duo Pure Shores have released their debut EP called Nightfall Feelings and we are very excited. We've loved their previous 2 singles. The EP has 6 tracks and we will review them one by one below.

1. First up on the EP is the title track "Nightfall Feelings." It is a short track clocking in at just a little more than 2 minutes. There are also limited vocals and not your standard pop song, more like a remix. Anyhoo, it is fun, funky, and we dig it.

2. "Fantasy" is the second track and it was actually a single by the group in 2020. We missed it back then so we are happy to hear it now. This is a dance pop banger! We love it.

3. "Back On My Love" is the song we just can't get enough of. What an amazing pop song. This will do well in our countdown in December of our Top 100 Songs of 2022. Stay tuned for that, but in the meantime you can see what we wrote about the song back in January of this year. Have a listen here ...

4. "Do That Again" slows down the tempo a bit and it has sort of a space age chill vibes to it. The music may be a bit chill, but the vocals certainly pack a punch.

5. "Wasting My Time" is apparently the latest single. This is very emotional pop that has a groove. Not quite a banger, but the big chorus will have you singing along in no time. We quite like it.

6. "In My Dreams" is a steady pop song it was the previous single released earlier this year. See what we said about it earlier this year. You can listen to the song here ...

These songs, especially the singles certainly deserve music videos. A good video doesn't have to have an expensive budget. We hope they turn some out this year.

All of the songs were written and produced by Ji Nilsson and Marlene Strand (Pure Shores) with the exception of "Wasting My Time" which was written and produced by Adolfo Andres Sister De La Fuente, Arild Wahl, Jo Nilsson, and Marlene Strand. Nightfall Feelings is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added the songs to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music. Please do so!

You Could At Least Say Goodbye by REYNA

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sister duo REYNA are back with a new song called "You Could At Least Say Goodbye."

Well, you can guess by the title of the song that it is about a breakup that could have been handled better. It sounds like Vic is on lead vocals this time around, however you can certainly still hear Gabby. The music video is a delight — as are a lot of their music videos. We just love their sense of humor. Have a look ...

"You Could At Least Say Goodbye" doesn't have the writing credits on Spotify listed, but we bet it was written by Gabby and Vic. It was produced by Bradley Hale. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music. Please do so!

Buffalo Stance by Robyn featuring Mapei (and Neneh Cherry, too)

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artists Robyn and Mapei have done a cover version of the classic "Buffalo Stance" originally written and performed by Neneh Cherry, who is also from Sweden. Neneh is also listed as a performer on this new version, but kind of unclear what her role is. We think Neneh is on backing vocals.

Now if you aren't familiar with the original "Buffalo Stance", you really owe it to yourself check out the video below. It was originally released at the end of 1988, but it dominated the airwaves around the world in 1989. It is a bombastic rap dance pop song.

Robyn, with the help of Mapei, took this song to a dream pop state — similar to what Swedish duo Rebecca & Fiona recently did with their remake of "All The Things She Said." This is perfect for relaxing chill mood. Mapei does the raps while Robyn takes on the rest of the vocals. Check out the lyric video ...

"Buffalo Stance" was written by Cameron McVey, Jamie Morgan, Neneh Cherry, and Phil Ramacon. This latest version was produced by Devonté Hynes. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Get Me To The Weekend REMIXES by Betty Boo

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sorry we were away for so long. Over 3 weeks. Life got busy and we had some traveling. We actually wrote this one on February 17, but didn't get around to publishing it. Better later than never!

We are still not over the return of Betty Boo and we are absolutely loving her new single "Get Me To The Weekend." It is such a fun and wonky song. Well, today Betty dropped a Club EP, which featured remixes of the song. YIPEE!

First up in the Extended Mix. It is a perfect way to enjoy the original song, but a bit longer. Don't worry, the mix only clocks in at 4:35 so it doesn't go on and on. The radio mix is 3:18 so this isn't that much different. But a joy, nonetheless. Have a listen ...

Next up is the Club Mix remixed by Until Dawn. This is really pumped up and a lot of fun. The guitar solo is gone from the club mixes. It has beat intros and outros to make it easier for DJs to mix into their sets. This should sound amazing on the dance floor.

The Club Dub remixed by Until Dawn is the same as the Club Mix without most of the vocals.

If you missed the official music video, do check it out. The Booettes are back. It's amazing what one can do with a green screen. This is as fun as the music. Doesn't Betty look amazing? Yes, she does. Have a look ...

The Club Radio Edit is just a very short version as it clocks in at 2:35. Woo! Someone went and put the music video to this mix. Have a look ...

"Get Me To The Weekend" was written by Alison Clarkson (aka Betty Boo), Andy Wright, Ian Burden, and Phil Oakey. (Ian and Phil wrote The Human League song). It was produced by Alison Clark, Andy Wright, and Gavin Goldberg. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music.
