Melancholia High Season by Sarah von Reis

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artist Sarah von Reis released a new song last month called "Melancholia High Season." You might remember that we featured her previous songs "All My Ghosts" in January, and "Only Lovers Left Alive" in March.

"Melancholia High Season" starts off a cappella before the mid-tempo electro music comes in. The lyrics are about being depressed and then music reflects that. The music video looks like it could be a trailer for a movie, as it is very well done. We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube ...

"Melancholia High Season" was written by Sarah von Reis, Maya Alderin Francis, and Andreas Söderlund, who also produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Thank God These Walls Can't Talk by Clara Mae

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artist Clara Mae has a new song out today called "Thank God These Walls Can't Talk." Sounds ominous, doesn't it? This follows Clara's previous single "When You're Young."

"Thank God These Walls Can't Talk" is about woman going through a hard time. Clara Mae has a way of telling stories that we love so much. Near the end of the song, there is a glimmer of something hopeful. It reminded us of how she did that with her 2017 song "I'm Not Her." We quite like this new song. The music video also premiered today. We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube ...

"Thank God These Walls Can't Talk" was written by Clara Mae, Sam Merrifield, and Dino Medanhodzic, who both produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Obsessions by Flora Summers

Dear Poptastic Readers,

New artist alert! (Well kind of). Introducing Flora Summers! She is a Swedish artist and we are most familiar with her as being half of the duo Isle Of You. Don't worry, Isle Of You isn't going away. (Thank goodness!) Flora's debut single is called "Obsessions."

"Obsessions" is kind of a 60s-retro-sounding track, and it feels like the perfect summer track. It has a charming melody, and we really like it. We think you will, too. Have a listen here ...

Padam Padam by Kylie Minogue

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Kylie Minogue is back with her second single of the year following "10 Out Of 10." The new single is called "Padam Padam" and we weren't sure what to make of it from the title. What on earth did "Padam" mean? Well, it is the sound of a beating heart. Both songs are from Kylie's forthcoming album Tension, which is due out in September. So we expect more singles! Yay!

While we initially liked "Padam Padam", we weren't sure how we felt about it after the first listen. However, we knew we wanted to hear it again, so we gave it 3 listens in a row. By the third listen, we were dancing around the room. It is understated pop song and the beat will end up hypnotizing you. The video is a visual delight in red. We noticed that the same hotel room looks very similar to the hotel room in the music video for "Dancing." Have a look on our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube ...

"Padam Padam" was written by Ina Wroldsen and Peter Rycroft. It was produced by LostBoy. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear "10 Out Of 10" there!

Lost In The Sunshine by Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has wasted no time releasing the third single from her forthcoming album Hana. The new single is called "Lost In The Sunshine" and it follows previous singles "Breaking The Circle" and "Everything Is Sweet."

"Lost In The Sunshine" is an easy-going retro-feeling pop song. It is very relaxing and nostalgic. Maybe it is a ballad, as it does kind of have that feel to it, but yet it also doesn't feel like a ballad.

May 25, 2023 UPDATE: Sophie released a lovely music video for the song. It is mostly in black and white, but there are some color bits. We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube ...

"Lost In The Sunshine" was written by Sophie Ellis-Bextor with Ed Harcourt, who also produced the song. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear  "Breaking The Circle" and "Everything Is Sweet" there.

The Lost Room by Pet Shop Boys

The music video features clips from a 1966 black and white movie called Der Junge Törless. You can see the music video on our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube ...

Wildfire by Isle Of You

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish duo Isle Of You are back with new song! YAY! The new song is called "Wildfire" and it is a beautiful ballad. It's important that you know it is a ballad beforehand so you know what to expect. After a few listens, we absolutely love it.

"Wildfire" is an emotional ballad that has an edge, but most importantly it has that Isle Of You magic where they get you all wrapped up in their emotions. The edge about this song is that you are almost waiting for the beat to drop and turn it into a tears-on-the-dancefloor anthem. Calling all remixers! Here the song here ...

And we are in luck! Isle Of You have made a live video of the song! And what is so special about this is that they normally sing in unison, but in the live version, Ida takes the first verse and Elina the second verse. When they both come in for the chorus is when you get that Isle Of You magic that we are talking about. We've added the live version to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube.

"Wildfire" was written by Elina Danielsson, Ida Johansson, Johan Ramstrom, and Tara Nabavi. It was produced by Herman Gardafve. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today and stream it when you can. We've added it to our 2023 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify
