Invisible by Duran Duran

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Duran Duran are back after a 6-year hiatus. Well, they had a song out earlier this year that was a remake of David Bowie's "Five Years." But that doesn't really count, does it? Their new song is called "Invisible" and it is the first single from their upcoming album called Future Past.

"Invisible" is not your average pop song. The music has an industrial feel with perhaps a touch of electroclash. We weren't sure about it when we first heard it. We had to have a few listens first, and then we found ourselves singing the chorus. So it does have quite a strong melody. Check out the music video ...

"Invisible" was written by Graham Coxon, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor. It was produced by Erol Alkan and Duran Duran. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You will also hear "Five Years" on the playlist. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Någon Annan by Clara Mae

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Clara Mae has a new song out and it sung in Swedish. It is called "Någon Annan" and it is a remake of an English language song called "Somebody Else" by a band called The 1975, which was originally recorded in 2016.

We weren't familiar with the original song, but we quite like this and we don't even speak Swedish. However, we enjoy pop music and good pop music doesn't have to just be in English. Clara Mae gives a great vocal performance and that will keep us listening. Speaking of listening, hear the song here ...

"Någon Annan" was written by Adam Hann, George Daniel, Matthew Healy, and Ross MacDonaldson. It was produced by Clara Mae, Max Thulin, and Cassandra Ströberg.

"Någon Annan" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today to help support the artist. We've added it to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Quarantine Baby and 7'11 by REYNA

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Pop sister duo REYNA are back with a timely song called "Quarantine Baby." WOO-HOO! Also, while looking this up, we came across a song called "7'11" that they released last October and somehow we missed it! D'oh! Well, better late than never! We'll review both here.

Up first is their latest: "Quarantine Baby." It is a mid-tempo jam about missing someone special. We love how they go from English to Spanish so easily. They both look fab in the music video. Check it out ...

Now for the song we missed: "7'11." While we may have missed it last fall, we will say that the song has a perfect easy-going summer vibe. The verses are English and the chorus is in Spanish. The music video is rather amusing as it is about ghosts, but not scary at all ...

"Quarantine Baby" was written by Hannah Gabriela Banuelos, Victoriah Banuelos (REYNA) and produced by REYNA and Salt Cathedral.

"7'11" was written by Hannah Gabriela Banuelos, Victoriah Banuelos, Coleman Trapp, and Luke Smith. It was produced by Luke Smith, Coleman Trapp, and Stephanie N Barker.

Both songs are available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copies today to help support the artist. We've added both songs to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Burning Bridges by Django Stewart

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Newcomer Django Stewart has just released his debut single called "Burning Bridges (For Your Love)." Django comes by music naturally as he has musical parents. His mother is Siobhan Fahey of Shakespears Sister (and formerly of Bananarama), and father is Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics.

"Burning Bridges" is a luscious pop song with a really catchy melody. Django has very soulful and powerful voice. There is also a female vocal for the bridge. The music video is quite a visual treat. Have a look ...

"Burning Bridges" was written by Django, John Paciolla, and Tyler Aubrey. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Support the artist and buy your copy today! We've added it to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Last October, Django released a song and video on YouTube called "You." (We missed it until now.) It's a beautiful, acoustic ballad that highlights Django's range as a vocalist. It isn't available on Spotify, or we would add it to our playlist. But you can watch and listen here ...

Cheers then,

Fictional by Henrikes

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artist Henrikes is back with a new song called "Fictional" and a new EP called Naive Again, and perhaps most interesting is that Henrikes is not a solo artist, but a duo made up of singer Josefin Henriques and producer Märta Grauers (formerly of Le Kid). All this time, we thought Henrikes was a solo act. Having said that, Märta has been on recent covers, so maybe we should have known. Whoops.

"Fictional" is an easy listening song that is a bit more upbeat than some of their previous material. It has a lovely melody that crescendos into a big chorus. The music video will want to make you walk around in a blue wig. Check it out ...

The Naive Again EP features songs that we have highlighted in 2020: "Velodrome" and "Vintage Love." And it also features the beautiful ballad that we ADORE from earlier this year called "Nostalgia."

"Fictional" was written by Josefin Henriques, Märta Gravers, and Robert Primrose. It was produced by
Märta Gravers and Robert Primrose. "Fictional" is available on digital outlets. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Don't Need Nothing (and other songs) by Aly & AJ

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Back in 2019, we featured new music from sisters Aly & AJ when we fell in love with their song "Star Maps." In fact, the song came in at #16 in our Top 100 Songs of 2019. We lost track of them after that, and we just saw that they recently have a new song that we love called "Don't Need Nothing." It is actually the 5th single (5th single!) from their current album called A Touch Of The Beat Gets You Up On Your Feet Gets You Out And Then Into The Sun. What a title!

"Don't Need Nothing" starts of very dreamy and then the drums kick in and it becomes a stomper. The album title is the lyrics for the chorus of this song. In the video, Aly & AJ are having an AbFab moment drinking wine and a food fight on what looks like a California winery. We love it. Have a look ...

Wasn't that FAB? Yes, it was. Now let's look at the other 4 singles that we missed.

"Slow Dancing" was released in December of 2020. This is a lovely ballad that has a tempo change about half way through. The music video is quite clever with the storylines of both Aly & AJ intertwining. Have a look ...

"Listen!!!" was released in January. Fun fact: Nancy Wilson of Heart plays guitar and sings backing vocals on this track. As you can imagine the music is very guitar driven, but having said that, it is still very much a pop song. Check out the music video ...

"Pretty Places" was released in March. This is a lovely mid-tempo pop song with a wonderful melody. The video is very nostalgic and features a road trip. See it here ...

"Symptom Of Your Touch" was released in April. This is an awesome song and we really like it. Here is something a bit odd, AJ couldn't make the filming of the video, so it only features Aly walking around the streets and beach. But the song definitely features both on vocals. Have a look ...

"Don't Need Nothing" was written by Aly & AJ and Jorge Elbrecht.
"Slow Dancing" was written by Aly & AJ, Jeremiah Raisen, Ryan Spraker, and Yves Rothman.
"Listen!!!" was written by Aly & AJ and Jorge Elbrecht.
"Pretty Places" was written by Aly & AJ, Jamie Sierota, and Yves Rothman.
"Symptom Of Your Touch" was written by Aly & AJ, Jorge Elbrecht, Jeremiah Raisen, and Yves Rothman.
All of these songs were produced by Yves Rothman.

Aly & AJ release their music on their own label, so if you like what you hear, please pay for the music to download. We've added all of these songs to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Love Terminator by StoneBridge & Crystal Waters

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Dance Music Icon Crystal Waters has teamed up with Swedish producer StoneBridge again for a new song called "Love Terminator." You might remember back in 2014 they had an incredible song called "Be Kind" that we absolutely adored. In fact, it was #6 in our Top Songs of 2014.

"Love Terminator" is a fun dance song with a beat so easy that it works for the dance floor and also lying around a pool. This is one to put on your summer playlist. Have a listen.

Wasn't that fab? Yes, it was. "Love Terminator" was written by Crystal Waters and Stem Hallstrom (aka StoneBridge). It was produced by Stonebridge, too. It comes with a glorious remix package if dance beats are your thing. "Love Terminator" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today!
