Passion by Alice D

Dear Poptastic Readers,

You might remember that last year, we absolutely fell in love with Alice D's song "Paper Roses" (which was #4 in our Top Songs of 2021). Well, she is back with a new song (and music video!) called "Passion." We think you are going to love it. We do.

"Passion" is sultry, sensual track that starts off very mysterious. It sounds like a live band, with jazzy guitar. Alice's vocals are warm and inviting. Once the Afro-Latino rhythm kicks in, you will be moving your hips in no time. There is also a flute in the song that so subtle that you might imagine birds singing along with the song. The music video is stunning. Alice is in top form here and we are living for it. Have a look ...

Just absolutely wonderful. "Passion" was written by Alice and Tim Blok, who also produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music. Please do so!

We've even added the music video to the top of our 2022 Poptastic Confessions YouTube playlist. Check it out ...

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Boomerang by Betty Boo

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy Wednesday! And what a Happy Wednesday it is. When we woke up today, we were greeted with the news that the name of Betty Boo's upcoming album is called Boomerang, and she also released the title track today! Glory be!

Let's talk about the song "Boomerang" first. This is a full-on pop rap song with a phat bass. The verses are rap with a cute chorus, which is sung. There is a lot to unpack here. At first we were getting some Lizzo vibes, and then "Konichiwa Bitches" by Robyn, but then we realized that those artists were probably influenced by Betty Boo, so it really just sounds like her. Also, there are some chords near the end that strangely remind of us of Owl City. This is awesome.

UPDATE: Check it out the lyric video here ...

Wasn't that fun? Yes, it was. And now the icing on the cake: Betty has a whole TM Store website that you can order physical copies of her new music as well as merchandise! There is a CD, pink-colored vinyl, cassettes, t-shirts, and Limited Edition Numbered 5-track Sampler CD that is free with bundles, but there are only 500 copies of that! In Love With The Night by Sean Smith

Dear Poptastic Readers,

English singer Sean Smith is back with a new song called "In Love With The Night." From the first chords, you know you are going to like this song.

"In Love With The Night" features a big vocal from Sean that is reminiscent of Steve Perry of Journey, but this sounds nothing like a Journey song, nor does Sean sound like Steve. However, the song is so euphoric that it stirs up some of those same nostalgic emotions when hearing this song. The verses are really feature Sean's amazing vocal abilities, and then a big build to the chorus and dance bit. Our only complaint is that it is too short. Have a listen ...

"In Love With The Night" was written and produced by Justin Busch. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added the "In Love With The Night" to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. Our 11th Anniversary!

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Today, this little music blog celebrates its 11th anniversary. We are very proud of what we have accomplished in the last 11 years. We highlight new music that gets overlooked by the masses, whether it be independent artists, veteran artists, or artists from other countries. We prove time and time again that there is much more to pop music than mainstream radio.

Poptastic Confessions was founded by Davearama, a self-proclaimed lover of unpopular pop music. The blog was originally called Davearama’s Guide to Poptastic Music, but he changed the name to take the focus away from him. Plus, we have had various contributors over the years.

We’ve been able to feature some interviews of our favourite artists over the years. We need to do more, and we hope to do more. In the meantime, check out these interviews that we have featured …

Annikafiore formerly of Alcazar

Ani Saunders (AKA Ani Glass) formerly of The Pipettes

Gwenno formerly of The Pipettes

*The original interviews were done by Davearama for

Pop Life, The Unofficial Bananarama Fanzine

For our 10th anniversary last year, several artists sent us videos wishing us a happy 10th anniversary. Watch all of the videos on this playlist below. They are in this order: Glass Slipper, Annikafiore, Christie, Carda, Normski, Clara Mae, Isle Of You, Chris Tall, Francine Belle, Ani Glass, Alice D, Henrikes, Gabby of REYNA, Jody Watley, John von Ahlen of Parralox, and Davearama.

We are also known for our year-end countdowns of our favourite songs of the year. It pretty much takes up most of December as we highlight one song each day in the Top 21. It takes a lot of work narrowing down the list and putting it in order. We basically have to start in early to mid-November each year to have it ready in time. Check out our top songs by year ...

To all of the artists and readers who have mentioned us on social media, shared our posts on social media, we thank you so very much. It really means a lot to us.

Masquerade by Bananarama

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Pop legends Bananarama (Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward) release their single called "Masquerade" today! It is also the title track of their upcoming album Masquerade, which will be released July 22. The duo is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. Their previous single (aka teaser track) "Favourite" was released at the end of April.

"Masquerade" is a different approach for Bananarama as the song is a bit downtempo, but not a ballad. The sound is epic electronica dream pop and the music almost sounds like the Pet Shop Boys produced it. The music video was filmed at a castle and it premieres on YouTube on Friday.

In the meantime, you can listen to the song here ...

The album Masquerade will be released on July 22. Not only will it be released digitally, but on vinyl, CD, and cassette. Each format will be getting a different colored artwork. The CD will have green, the red and and blue vinyls will have red and blue covers, and the cassette will be purple. Order your physical copies and merchandise here. Here is the tracklisting for the new album ...

Masquerade
2. Stay Wild
3. Velvet Lies
4. Masquerade
5. Running With The Night
6. Bad Love
7. Let's Go Outside
9. Need A Little More Time
10. Forever Young
11. Waiting For The Sun To Shine

"Masquerade" was written by Sara and Keren with Ian Masterson, who also produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added the "Masquerade" to our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear their previous teaser track "Favourite" there. Please remember to use Spotify as a way to hear new music. The best way to support the artists are to buy their music. Please do so!
