The 30th Anniversary of Tripping On Your Love by Bananarama

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Pop Life, The Unofficial Bananarama Fanzine has been putting out special digital editions of the fanzine dedicated to the 30th anniversaries of the singles from Bananarama's glorious 1991 Pop Life album. "Tripping On Your Love" was released 30 years ago this month.

Not only was "Tripping On Your Love" the last single from the album Pop Life. It was also the last single to feature Jacquie O'Sullivan. That also means that Bananarama have been a duo for 30 years now.

Bananarama in 1991: Keren, Sara, and Jacquie

There are lots of interesting tidbits about "Tripping On Your Love" ... It is the single with the most commissioned remixes; George Michael even remixed the song; it was also meant to be the second single from the album, but it was pushed back; it is the only Bananarama song with a rapper; and at the time, it was lowest charting single since their debut single "Aie A Mwana" in 1981. In Bananarama's book Really Saying Something, we discovered that the chorus was already written and Sara wrote the verses and bridge.

"Tripping On Your Love" is an amazing song with a glorious melody. The music video features Keren, Sara, and Jacquie looks absolutely gorgeous. Another tidbit: Sara was very pregnant in the music video. Have a look ...

Also, the Silky 70s Mix takes the unison vocals and breaks them up individually. There is a piece in the fanzine that tries to figure out who is singing which part. Download all four special-edition fanzines here ...

"Tripping On Your Love" was written by Sara Dallin, Andy Caine, Danny Schogger, and Youth, who also produced the track. You can stream the incredible Pop Life album on Spotify here ...

Cheers then,

The Slightest Touch by Steps

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Steps have released another new song today. It is from their forthcoming album What The Future Holds Part 2, which is due out September 10. This one is called "The Slightest Touch."

"The Slightest Touch" is a remake of a song originally by the group Five Star in 1987The Steps version has a modern, updated feel to this fun dance pop song. Even better is that everyone gets solo vocal lines, even the guys. They have released a "visualizer" for the song ... in other words, "a music video on a budget." No matter, we love it. Have a look ...

"The Slightest Touch" was written by Marvin Morrow and Michael Jay Margules. It was produced by Jon Dixon, Julian Gingell, and Pete Hofmann. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear their other 2021 tracks there: "To The Beat Of My Heart", "Heartbreak In This City", and "Take Me For A Ride." Enjoy!

Cheers then,

More Joy! by Duran Duran featuring Chai

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Duran Duran have released the second single from their forthcoming album called Future Past. It will be the band's 15th studio album. You might remember the lead single "Invisible" was released back in May. The new song is called "More Joy!" and it features Japanese female group Chai.

If you can't tell by the title, this is a fun song with loads more energy than "Invisible." The music sounds a bit like a video game, in a good way. It has 2 verses before it gets to the chorus where you hear Chai shout "More Joy!" Funnily enough, the song only has one proper chorus. This is really has a lot of energy and we are loving it. It feels like a sequel to their 1997 song "Electric Barbarella." Check out the super cute cartoon lyric video ...

"More Joy!" was written by Erol Alkan, Graham Coxon, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor. It was produced by Erol Alkan and Duran Duran. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You will also hear "Invisible" and "Five Years" on the playlist. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Alien 2 Me by Marcella Detroit

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Hot on the heels of her previous single “Vicious Bitch”, Marcella Detroit is back once again with the release of her brand new single “Alien 2 Me” – the second to be taken from her forthcoming new album Gold, celebrating an incredible 50 years in the music business.

“Alien 2 Me” is an epic dancefloor filler remixed by the legendary 7th Heaven, featuring operatic vocals from Marcy and melancholy lyrics about the state of the world; “Feel like I don’t belong, countdown till I’m gone, cos I’m tired… living in a world without love”.

The music video (directed by Marcy’s husband, Lance Aston) is a fun watch too. Marcy is looking fantastic rocking out in her spacesuit, while cute alien faces lip-sync the words to the song. The video ends with her walking off with her new alien friends; “Hey, don’t leave without me!”

Marcy has recently been treating her loyal fanbase to Instagram live sessions every Saturday, where she has been delving behind the scenes of her new music, answering questions and giving speak previews of unreleased tracks/remixes. Make sure you’re following Marcy to get involved!

“Alien 2 Me” is available now on all streaming platforms and the new album Gold is due out next month. Also be sure to check out Marcella’s website www.marcelladetroit.rocks – as she releases new musical content for download every Friday. We've added it to our to our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear “Vicious Bitch” there. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

—Normski

"Take Me For A Ride" is a mid-tempo synth-pop affair. It has a lovely melody that we would expect from a Steps song, especially a great chorus. The song is about heartbreak and that person being a liar who took them for a ride. Have a listen ...

"Take Me For a Ride" was written by Karl Twigg and Mark Topham. It was produced by Julian Gingell and Pete Hofmann. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!
