Dear Poptastic Readers,
We recently heard a track called “My House” by Elderbrook that we quite liked. We think you will like it, too.
Elderbrook is the stage name of talented English singer/songwriter/producer Alexander Kotz. Best known for the 2017 club anthem, “Cola”, a collaboration with electronic duo CamelPhat, Elderbrook recently released his first full length-album, the eclectic and electro-leaningWhy Do We Shake In The Cold?
While the album ranges from broody electronica to euphoric club tracks, probably the most straight-up pop-oriented song on the album is “My House.” Sporting the best synth stabs this side of Empire Of The Sun, the song is addictive right from the start. Beyond just being a great earworm of a tune, the deceptively simple lyrics actually carry some interesting messages.
Of the song, Elderbrook has said:
“The song focuses on how a lot of people, if not most, always want the next bigger, better thing. Never being happy with what they’ve got. The other side to the lyrics of this song is that a lot of people never stop acting like children; ‘my house is bigger than your house’ ‘I know you are but what am I’ and the whole ‘I want’ culture. Another theme running through is my own experience with childhood and not fitting in anywhere”
Written during lockdown, the song was released as a single earlier this summer and was accompanied by the fun video below which playfully amplifies the song’s lyrics and themes. It even includes an endearingly charming bit of choreography at about the 3-minute mark!
"My House" was written by Alexander Kotz, Garret 'Jacknife' Lee, and Sophie Davies. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2020 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.
