Singapore by Girls Aloud

Dear Poptastic Readers,

UK girl group Girls Aloud have released a new-ish song called "Singapore." It was originally recorded for their third album Chemistry in 2005, but the song wasn't released. The demo was actually released on a Limited Edition of The Sound of Girls Aloud on a bonus CD. Now the group is reissuing their third album for its 20th anniversary, and a new version of "Singapore" has been released ahead the reissue. The new version is called Definite Version.

If you are not familiar with Girls Aloud, then definitely check out their amazing discography. One thing to note is that one of their members, Sarah Harding, died in 2021 at age 39 due to cancer. Last summer, Girls Aloud did their first tour without Sarah, but they had lots of images and vocals including Sarah. The new single is no different. It includes vocals from Sarah that weren't actually on the demo version. We think the song is quite lovely. We've added it to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Sorrow Town by RetroPopBoy

Dear Poptastic Readers,

New independent artist alert: We have just found out about RetroPopBoy, who is an artist from England, but is originally from Spain. He has a new single out called "Sorrow Town" and it is a remake of a 1998 song by the band Peach.

RetroPopBoy's version of "Sorrow Town" transforms the trancepop original to a uplifting throwback to the Stock Aitken Waterman era of pop. The lyrics are a bit reminicent of "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat. The music video was filmed in RetroPopBoy's hometown in Spain and it shows how he left Spain as a young man to start a new life in England. Jupiter Pulse and Inga's Affairs have teamed up for a new song called "Sábado Noche", which is Spanish for Saturday Night. If you are familiar with both acts, then you might know the same artist Juan Pedro Pérez Gallego is the mastermind behind both of them. Inga's Affairs has more funny lyrics and music to dance. Jupiter Pulse is more emotional dramatic pop. Now we have both together.

Nightclubbing by SoundFactory

Legendary dance artist/producer SoundFactory has released their sixth single this year and it is called "Nightclubbing." It is a remake originally recorded by Iggy Pop. It has been covered by Grace Jones, The Human League, and in 2022, we featured it in Poptastic Confessions when it was recorded by Parralox. This new single does not appear on SoundFactory's current album Visions. Instead, this single is the beginning of a new project. WOO!

"Nightclubbing" features vocals by Kayo Shekoni, who is a Swedish singer who has been in groups Le Click and Afro-dite. We still get chills at her vocal performance on the record "Call Me" by Le Click from 1997. Afro-dite hit #1 in Sweden with "Never Let It Go" as it represented Sweden in Eurovision in 2002. Now on to "Nightclubbing" ... Kayo is definitely channeling Grace Jones in her commanding vocal performance. She sounds great. Dear Poptastic Readers,

Belinda Carlisle has released her third single this year from her forthcoming album of cover versions called Once Upon A Time in California. The new single is called "One." It was written and originally recorded by Harry Nilsson in 1968. It became a bigger hit for Three Dog Night in 1969. Belinda's previous 2 singles this year were: "The Air That I Breath" and "Get Together."

Belinda's take on "One" is a faithful cover with classic sounds that it was recorded with a live band. Belinda gives a commanding vocal performance. We like it, but we feel it has a rather abrupt fade at the end. Hopefully, there will be a longer version on her album. We've added the official music video to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

Last weekend, we heard this fun song and we couldn't get it out of our heads. It is called "No Broke Boys" by Disco Lines & Tinashe. Both are new artists for us. The original version of the song was released at the end of 2024 by Tinashe. Disco Lines remixed it, transformed it, and released it in June.

The Disco Lines remix of "No Broke Boys" is a fun electro banger. The attitude of this song makes it a bit more fun with the hi-nrg beats.
