Hush Hush by Meira Omar

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Last weekend was Sweden's first day of Melodifestivalen, which is the country's selection process to see which song will represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest. For us, there was a standout song called "Hush Hush" by Meira Omar. We don't know much about Meira except that she was born in Afghanistan and raised in Sweden. Her debut single in 2020 was called "Dive", but it was recently re-released in December.

"Hush Hush" is a lush pop song that channels some Bollywood energy and we are loving it. It has the great melody that Swedes are famous for. During the first verse of her Melodifestivalen performance, a cameraman fell off the stage and hurt himself. Meira kept on going like a true professional, even while a lot of people rushed to help the fallen cameraman. We've added the performance to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Meira came in third place and qualified for the second chance round to come later in the month. Apparently, the song has already gone to #1 in Sweden. "Hush Hush" was written by Anderz Wrethov, Dino Medanhodzic, Laurell Barker, and Meira Omar. It was produced by Dino Medanhodzic. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Belinda Carlisle has released a new duet with Nicholas Hamilton, and it is called "Never Alone" The song is from the movie Brave The Dark. Nicholas is the lead actor in the movie.

"Never Alone" is a retro-sounding pop-rock song. Nicholas takes the first verse, and Belinda has the second verse. They both join in for the bridges and the big sing-along chorus. This is a fun song. We've added movie-montage music video to our 2024 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"Never Alone" was written by Nicholas Hamilton and Arthur Pingrey, who also produced the track. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Recognise by Shura

Dear Poptastic Readers,

It has been a while since we have had new music from Shura, but she has just released a new song called "Recognise." It is the first single from her forthcoming album in May called I Got Too Sad For My Friends. Shura was also a co-writer of the song "Freedom Of The Night" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, which was #2 in our Top Songs of 2024.

"Recognise" is a down-tempo dreamy song that sounds a bit sad and hopeful at the same time. The beat does pick up from the beginning, and Shura's vocals are quite lovely. We've added the official visualizer to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

"Recognise" was written by Aleksandra Lilah Denton (aka Shura) and Paul Hammer. It was produced by Luke Smith and Shura. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Growing Pains by Clara Mae

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artist Clara Mae is back with a new song called "Growing Pains." You might remember that last year, Clara released a solo song called "The Player." She also was a songwriter and uncredited vocalist for the song "Emotions" by Discrete, which was #7 in our Top Songs of 2024.

"Growing Pains" starts off acapella and then turns into an acoustic jam and then going quiet again for the end. The lyrics are about family dynamics and how it affects you growing up, as well as your adult life. Clara said on her Instagram page: "This is probably the most personal song I have ever released. It’s very different from what you’ve heard from me before. I really felt like this was something I needed to write." The melody is quite nice, and Clara sounds amazing. The music video is a live, acapella performance. Check it out in our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Heaven In Your Arms by Salute and Jessie Ware

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In mid-November, UK singer Jessie Ware released a song with an artist named Salute (they stylize it lowercased: salute) called "Heaven In Your Arms." We didn't hear about it until recently. Better late than never.

"Heaven Is In Your Arms" is a fun dance pop song with a gospel-inspired chorus with a choir that sounds heavenly. Pun intended.
The music video features a Toyota MR2 from the 80s driving around in AI land. We've added it to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"Heaven Is In Your Arms" was written by Sam Knowles, Felix Nyajo, and Jessica Burrows. It was produced by Salute and Karma Kid. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Living La Vida by Andreas Lundstedt

Dear Poptastic Readers,

At the end of last year, Alcazar singer Andreas Lundstedt took part of the Swedish TV show called SÃ¥ Myckret Bättre, which translates to So Much Better. Artists on the show take turns covering the other artists' songs. Andreas released 4 new singles: "Högt Över Havet", "GrÃ¥ter Tillsammans Över Varandra", "Just Like That (I Like It)" with Alcazar (It was our #1 Song of 2024), and the last single was "Living La Vida" but it was released too late for us to get to it. So better late than never. All 4 songs are on the Tolkningarna EP (aka The Interpreters).

"Living La Vida" is remake of a song called "F.A.M.E. (LeyLey)" by Dani M & Prodotto di Superti. Simon Supertis was also on the TV show. Andreas's version picks up the tempo and turns it into a fun, energetic pop song. We've added his performance on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"Living La Vida" was written by Dani M, Prodotto di Superti, and Dino Medanhodzic. It was produced by Dino Medanhodzic. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Back To You by Benjamin Ingrosso

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Benjamin Ingrosso released a single in December called "Back To You" and it was the 6th single from his current album Pink Velvet Theatre. You might remember that Benjamin had 2 entries in our Top Songs of 2024: "Honey Boy" was #4 and "Kite" was #11.

"Back To You" feels like mid-tempo power ballad, without being a ballad at all. It has a nice melody and a catchy chorus. The music video is set in Stockholm, Sweden in 1950 and a tragic event happens. Benjamin's character tries to undo this event with time travel, and the video ends with a cliffhanger ending. We've added it to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

"Back To You" was written by Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare, and Benjamin Ingrosso. Him by A Flock Of Seagulls

Dear Poptastic Readers,

At the end of 2024, 80s synthpop legends A Flock Of Seagulls released the second single from their new album Some Dreams — their first studio album in 30 years. The first single was "Some Dreams" (#54 in our Top 141 Songs of 2024). The new song is called "Him."

We first thought the title "Him" might be religious, but it isn't. The lyrics are about having a lover who is cheating. After hearing the song, we think a better title would have been "I Know You're With Him." No matter. This easy-going pop song has a lot of classic synth chords and soaring guitars that makes up the band's signature sound. It is futuristic nostalgia. We've added the official music video to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist

2 Become 1 by Emma Bunton

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In December, Baby Spice Emma Bunton released a surprise single! It was an orchestral remake of the Spice Girls 1996 hit "2 Become 1."

Emma's version is even more of a ballad than the Spice Girls version. The orchestra is quite beautiful. Emma has a beautiful voice and easily handles the vocals by herself. How glorious would it have been if the other 4 Spice Girls would have joined her on this. We've added the music video to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"2 Become 1" was written by Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Matt Rowe, and Richard Stannard. Nest by Sarah von Reis

Dear Poptastic Readers,

At the end of November, Swedish artist Sarah von Reis released a single called "Nest." We couldn't get to it in time for our year-end countdown. Sarah had 4 songs on our countdown last year with the highest being "Blame It On." It was #21 in our Top Songs of 2024

"Nest" is a dreamy slow song that is so epic that it sounds like it could be from a movie soundtrack as it feels very cinematic. The guitar is quite lovely, and we imagined ourselves lying in the grass watching the clouds, but then there is a big crescendo and the guitar wakes you up from your dreamy state. Sarah's vocals are lush, and this is really quite nice. We've added the official audio to our 2024 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"Nest" was written by Sarah von Reis and Michelle Amkoff. It was produced by Michelle Amkoff. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...

Barbarella by Betty Boo

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy New Year! In December, and during our countdown, Betty Boo released the third single from her album Rip Up The Rulebook and it is called "Barbarella." Her latest album was one of our favourite albums of 2023. Check out the previous singles "It Was Beautiful" (#23 in our Top Songs of 2024) and "One Day" (#41 in our Top Songs of 2024).

"Barbarella" was already a standout track as it opens her new album. The single version has been reworked, and it sounds a bit more epic, especially the intro. We are mesmerized by this very cool mid-tempo groovy track with its sci-fi–themed lyrics mixed with English and French. We love it! We've added the official lyric video to our brand-new 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist.

"Barbarella" was written and produced by Betty Boo, Andy Wright, and Gavin Goldberg. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! Listen to it on our 2025 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify ...
