The Air That I Breathe by Belinda Carlisle

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Great news! Pop-legend Belinda Carlisle has a new album coming out in August called Once Upon A Time In California. Today, her first single from the album was released and it it is called "The Air That I Breathe." The song was originally recorded by co-writer Albert Hammond in 1972. It was covered by Phil Everly in 1973. However, it was the group The Hollies who had a hit with it in 1974. It has been covered many times over the years by Olivia Newton-John, k.d. lang, Simply Red, many others, and now Belinda.

"The Air That I Breathe" is a mid-tempo ballad. The lyrics are about being very in love with someone. Think wedding song. Belinda gives a strong vocal perforrnance. It's a pretty faithful cover. We've added the music video to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

We were just jamming to Crystal Water's 1996 jam "In De Ghetto", and then saw she has a new song out with ManyFew called "Big Bite." In March, we featured her song "You & Me" also with ManyFew.

Legendary dance artist/producer SoundFactory is on a roll dropping another new single this year and it is called "I'm Into You." This follows the singles "Wigs Lashes Heels Mascara" and "Cocktail." All three singles are from the current album called Visions.

I Want You Back by Rikky Disco

Over 6 years ago, Chris from Rikky Disco let us hear a demo for a song called "I Want You Back" and we knew immediately that it was amazing. We've been waiting a long time for this song to be available. Finally, the song was released yesterday and we are beyond thrilled as we love this song! Immediate download!

"I Want You Back" is pure camp! The music is shimmering lush disco and we live for it. The lyrics are a bit bittersweet as it is about a lost love and the nostalgia that surrounds it. Despite the lyrics, this just makes you feel all warm inside. Obsession by Retropenu x Dubious Gloom

Dear Poptastic Readers,

In April, we were introduced to Finnish artist Retropenu and their song "Masquerade." They are back with Dubious Gloom for a remake of Army Of Lovers classic song "Obsession." Last week, we featured a song called "Unconventional Man" by Big Boy Therapy, who one half is Dubious Gloom.

This new version of "Obsession" is a faithful update with a disco beat. It has some elements that remind us of the Pet Shop Boys. Of course, the original is great song and this is very good cover. Great job! We've added the official visualizer to our 2025 Poptastic Confessions YouTube Playlist ...

Antonio by Inga's Affairs

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Inga's Affairs have released a new song today called "Antonio." Their previous songs have been sung in Spanish. But this one is sung in English, and it is available in two mixes: Benidorm Mix and Stockholm Mix.

"Antonio" is a fun pop song. The lyrics about having a good time in the summer. The Benidorm Mix is more of a pop dance sound, with a big female vocal. This is more emotional version. The Stockholm Mix of "Antonio" picks up the pace and turns it into a dancefloor stomper. We think this mix has a different singer, too. The chorus sounds a bit different to.
