Donna Summer: 1948-2012

This morning while waiting for a meeting to get started at work, I checked my Facebook account on my iPhone. And in my news feed, I saw two people post "RIP Donna Summer." My heart sank.

My first memory of her was for the movie "Thank God It's Friday" in 1978 where she sang her smash hit "Let's Dance."

I have vague memories of "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" in 1979.

However, it was her 1983 anthem "She Works Hard For The Money" that was the first single I bought of hers. Yes, it was a 45 rpm record. I'm pretty sure that I still have it!

In 1989, Donna Summer worked with Bananarama's producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman for her album "Another Place And Time" that spawned the hit "This Time I Know It's For Real."

However, it was her 1999 hit "I Will Go With You (Con Te PartirĂ³)" that I absolutely fell in love with, and might be my favourite Donna Summer song. The song was originally sung in Italian by opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Donna wrote new English lyrics and it became a dancefloor anthem.

I'm sorry to say that I don't remember any other song since this one. But even still, her songs over the years have meant a lot to me. And I'm sad that she left us far too soon.

Rest in peace!
