Secret and Lesson by Little Boots

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sometimes our list of songs to review gets rather long, especially when we take a 2-week break. So we figured we better review Little Boot's song "Secret" before July ends. Then we find out that she has another single out called "Lesson." D'oh! Both tracks are from her forthcoming EP Jump, which is released this Friday.

First up is "Secret" ... it's dark little ditty that starts off with a bit of talking. It's a sultry track that is a bit funky and fun. Have a listen ...

"Lesson" is more of your standard pop song, without sounding standard at all. Little Boots vocals are soaring high. This mid-tempo song features male vocals by Kiddy Smile. It has a really nice melody. Listen to it here ...

Both tracks are available on digital outlets everywhere. Her EP Jump is out of Friday. We've added both new songs to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo!~

Quiet Down 2 by Madison Malone

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy Monday! Sorry we’ve been away for so long. Let’s ease back into things with this new easy-going song called “Quiet Down 2” by Madison Malone.

Who is Madison Malone? Well, she is new to us. She is an American singer/songwriter who had an album out in 2016 called Bloom. Her new song is about expressing love in the most open and honest way possible. It is very lovely pop song. We aren't sure why there is a 2 in the title, but no matter. Check out the beautiful music video …

Wasn’t that nice? Yes, it was. “Quiet Down 2” is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We’ve added it to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo!~

Hard To Forget by Isle Of You

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sorry we haven't been around this week. Life gets busy. However, we did want you know that Isle Of You released a music video for their latest single "Hard To Forget."

We recently reviewed their debut album Party Until We're In Love and we talked a bit about the song there. What else can we tell you? It is an electro pop gem with a great melody and stunning chorus. Sure, it drops the F-bomb in the middle 8, but it works. The music video is technically a "lyric video." However, it seems more than that because the lyrics are over actual footage of Ida and Elina walking around a city. Have a look ...

Wasn't that FAB? Yes, it was! "Hard To Forget" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our  2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You can hear their previous singles "Hold Tight""Change Of Heart" there. We even added their 2018 songs ("Backseat Ceremony", "Bodyguard", and "Skintight") on our 2019 list, too. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Church, Don't Go Changing, and Star Maps by Aly & AJ

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Here's another instance of us being late to the party. Somehow, we just heard about Aly & AJ after our review of Isle Of You's debut album Party Until We're In Love. A few readers suggested for us try the new Aly & AJ. Well, we did ... and we quite like their new songs.

Aly & AJ

Aly & AJ are an American pop sisters duo. They are mostly well known for their big hit in 2007 called "Potential Breakup Song" from their third album Insomniatic. Do they look familiar? They are both actresses! Aly is on iZombie and AJ is on The Goldbergs and the new spin-off Schooled.

Fast forward musically to 2019, and they have new 5-track EP called Sanctuary. And they've released 3 singles so far. We'll review them below.

"Church" was the first single. The song starts off sounding like a ballad, until the beat kicks in during the first chorus. However the tempo comes and goes throughout. It has a lovely melody. Check out the music video ...

"Don't Go Changing" is the second single. It also starts off very somber until the big chorus hits. This is a synth-pop gem — very dreamy.

"Star Maps" is the latest single, and our favorite of the bunch. It has such an epic build that leads to a fabulous chorus. Check out the amazing video ...

All 3 of these songs and the Sanctuary EP are available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copies today! We've added these 3 songs to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Breathe by Lina Hedlund

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Lina Hedlund (of Alcazar) has just released her second solo single this year. The new one is called "Breathe" and we quite like it.

"Breathe" is a mid-tempo modern pop song. It has a nice melody as well as a nice lyrical message. Lina sounds great, as always. Have a listen ...

Very nice. "Breathe" isn't available for download on digital outlets everywhere, but it is on streaming services. We've added it to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. You'll also hear Lina's previous single "Victorious" there. Enjoy!~

On One EP, Naked Soul, and Do You Love What You Feel by Glass Slipper

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Back in May, we featured 3 releases from Glass Slipper. Now 2 months later, we are featuring 3 more releases from Glass Slipper! Dang! We can't keep up. We'll review them below ...

Glass Slipper are Lisa and Bradley

On One EP: Does "On One" sound familiar? It should. It was originally released in a funkier form in 2017. It even came in at #33 in our top songs of 2017. The new version is less funky and more deep house, which is what Glass Slipper is known for. The new version has a dub and an instrumental versions on the EP. Here's a little clip ...

The original cover for "On One" back in 2017

"Mama's Recipe": This is the second track on the On One EP. It is aimed right at the dance floor. Sounds like some sort of sample of some man talking in the beginning. Other than that, it doesn't have a lot of vocals. Just like the song "On One", there is a dub and an instrumental version on the EP. Listen to the original version here ...

"Naked Soul": This release features the original version and a dub version. The lyrics revolve around what to wear on judgment day. Lisa does a great job with harmonizing with herself in lead and backing vocals. Bradley takes the beat to a deep place. Hear it here ...

"Do You Love What You Feel": This track is actually billed as Glass Slipper vs. The Stoned. This is probably our favorite of the bunch. Something about it just makes you feel happy. The release has the original mix, a Glass Slipper Live Bass Dub, and The Stoned ReRolled Remix. Have a listen ...

All of these songs are available on digital outlets. Buy your copies today to help support the artist. We've also added all of the songs featured here to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,

Fool For Love by Nadine Coyle

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle released a new single called "Fool For Love" back in May. We are just getting around to it. Better late than never!

Two years ago, Nadine released the piano-led house pop song "Go To Work" and it landed at #10 on our 2017 year-end countdown. "Fool For Love" showcases Nadine's big vocals. It has a nice rhythm section. The music video has Nadine dancing around a studio with some very handsome dancers. Have a look ...

"Fool For Love" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it to our 2019 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Woo!

Party Until We're In Love by Isle Of You

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish duo pop sensation Isle Of You have just released their debut album called Party Until We’re In Love and it is FABULOUS!

Who is Isle Of You? Obviously from the paragraph above, you now know they are a duo from Sweden. Their names are Elina and Ida and they’ve been best friends since they were 10. They are now 21. They both play the guitar (and maybe more) and write their songs. If you haven’t already done so, say “Isle Of You” out loud. It should bring a smile to your face as it sounds like “I love you.”

Isle Of You is Ida and Elina

We found out about Isle Of You through Scandipop back in February when “Change Of Heart” was featured. We fell in love with them and immediately went to iTunes and bought their previous singles: “50+1”, “Skintight”, “Bodyguard”, and “Backseat Ceremony.” In April, they released another single called “Hold Tight” and all of these songs have been on constant rotation for us all spring and summer long. When we bought their debut album, we already knew 5 of the 10 songs. So here is our track-by-track review …

“Now That You’ve Seen My Love” is the opening track. It starts off rather slow, but it doesn’t take long for the groove to kick in when the first verse starts. “Do you really want my love?” is asked several times. The answer is yes. Yes, we do. We definitely want more from Isle Of You!

“Backseat Ceremony” was released as a single in September of last year. Although some peculiar lyrics about falling in love in the back of a taxi, it is a great song with a wonderful chorus. Have a listen ...

“Change Of Heart” is the song that captured our hearts. Click on the title to see what we wrote about it back in February. All we can add to our review is that the chorus is AMAZING and we never tire of hearing it. Check out the super-cool music video ...

“Hard To Forget” is the latest single with the launch of the album. We generally don’t like songs that drop the F-bomb in the lyrics. However, we’ll make an exception, as this is a really good song. Lots of attitude here!

“Party Until We’re In Love” is the title track of the album. It’s a mid-tempo electro jam. It is a smooth track with a lovely melody.

“Bodyguard” is also a single from last year. It was inspired after the duo performed a show at a prison in Medellín, Columbia. Wouldn’t we love to know the story there? Stay tuned. “Bodyguard” definitely has a retro feel, while still sounding current. It’s a very fun song as it is about having a strong bond of friendship. Check out the adorable music video ...

“Skintight” is another fun song. This was also their first single of 2018. If you go to their Facebook page (and like their page) you can see a lovely performance by them with just their guitars.

“Hold Tight” was the previous single in April. Click on the title to see what we wrote about it then. Unlike some of their other songs that have big choruses, this has a big bridge (the part before the chorus), making it instantly likable. There is a fantastic middle 8 too! We must admit to liking the song even more now. It is one of those songs that you look forward to hearing. Here is the lyric music video ...

“Safe Zone” is last of the new songs. It is a bit down tempo, but we wouldn’t really call it a ballad. As with almost every song here, they sure know how to deliver a glorious chorus.

“Change Of Heart” (Grönroos & Bravo Remix) closes the album with an almost 6-minute mix taking the beats to a dark place. The mix has both verses and both bridges, but chorus has been given the dub effect.

If we have any criticism of this album, it is this: We think it is short 2 songs. The first being “50+1.” It was the first single from Isle Of You in 2016. It’s an acoustic pop gem that is so delightful. While we realize that it might sound out of place on this electro album, we kinda wish it remixed and placed somewhere around “Bodyguard” or “Skintight.” Having said that, the album does work well without it. The beauty about getting your musically digitally is that you can buy “50+1” and add it to your playlist anywhere you want it, or not at all.

Another song they could have included would have been their song “Mindcrime” from 2017. This song is a bit of a mystery as it doesn't appear on any digital outlets that we can see (here in the USA). You can hear it on YouTube below ...

Overall, this is a great debut album. Do yourself a favor and buy it. It will be the soundtrack of your summer, and it will become part of the soundtrack to your life. You are going to want Isle Of You in your memories when you look back on 2019. Party Until We’re In Love is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. Please remember to stream it, too.

Cheers then,

—Davearama
