Heartbreak In This City by Steps & Michelle Visage

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Steps have added another voice to their latest single "Heartbreak In This City" and it is Michelle Visage! Now, if you aren't familiar with her, she is a judge on RuPaul's Drag Race. Michelle used to be a girl group in the 90s called Seduction. She was also in the SOUL SYSTEM. Michelle is also a big fan of Steps! Aren't we all?

"Heartbreak In The City" is a glorious pop song. The original version appears on their album What The Future Holds, which was released in November of 2020. To the casual listener, it might be hard to pick out Michelle's vocals. The producers did a great job of blending her into the track. Have a listen ...

"Heartbreak In This City" was written by Karl Twigg and Stella Attar. It was produced by Barry Stone and Julian Gingell. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

The Saddest Girl by Sarah von Reis

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish artist Sarah von Reis is back with her second solo single and this one is called "The Saddest Girl." You might remember that we featured her debut single last year called "Anti Gravity (No One's Daughter)." It came in at #56 in our Top 100 Songs of 2020.

"The Saddest Girl" is a soulful space-age ballad that Sarah wrote when she joined the pastel-wig-wearing girl group Dolly Style. Why would that be sad? Well, that isn't what the song is about, Sarah was dumped by an email. Oooph! So this is a song about heartbreak. Check out the lyric video ...

"The Saddest Girl" was written by Sarah and Ingrid Hägglund. It was produced by Martin Bustgaard Granlund and Ingrid Hägglund. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Cheers then,

Saturday or Sunday Night by Velvet featuring House Of Dreams

Dear Poptastic Readers,

If you love dance pop as much as we do, then check out "Saturday Or Sunday Night" by Velvet featuring House Of Dreams. It was released at the end of December, but we just heard it. We like it!

"Saturday Or Sunday Night" is a fun song about dancing! Velvet gives a nice vocal performance and we are digging it. Have a listen ...

"Saturday Or Sunday Night" was written by Anton Hård af Segerstad and Niclas Lundin. (If Anton's name looks familiar, it is because he used to be in the pop group Le Kid. That also makes the second Le Kid member for us to feature this year as Märta formerly of Le Kid is in Henrikes who we featured earlier this year.) "Saturday Or Sunday Night" was produced by Tobias Näslund. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Five Years by Duran Duran

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Duran Duran have done another David Bowie cover. This time, it is for the song "Five Years", which was the opening track on Bowie's 1972 album called The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

The songs is about an impending apocalyptic disaster that will destroy the Earth in 5 years. Perhaps timely given the climate change in the world. David Bowie's longtime pianist Mike Garson accompanies the band on the song and in the music video. Take a look ...

"Five Years" was written by David Bowie. Duran Duran's version was produced by Duran Duran and Joshua Blair. It is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!

Fun fact: Duran Duran have covered David Bowie before. In 1981, they recorded "Fame" for the b-side to their single "Careless Memories." In 1995, they recorded "Diamond Dogs" which was an extra track on the Japanese version of their album Thank You.

Kick It & Break It by Dolly Style

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Sweden's pastel-wig-wearing girl group Dolly Style is back with a new pop banger single called "Kick It & Break It."

"Kick It & Break It" is a fun pop song. It has an uplifting message, and it almost sounds like it could be in a Disney film, especially looking at the cartoon single cover. The music video shows Holly, Polly, and Molly writing and recording the track with their producer Palle Hammarlund. Have a look ...

To The Beat Of My Heart Video and Remixes by Steps

Dear Poptastic Readers,

You may remember that back in November, Steps released "To The Beat Of My Heart" as their 5th song leading up to their album release. The song even landed in at #22 in our Top 100 Songs of 2020. Had it been a proper single in 2020, it surely would have been Top 10.

Steps have now released remixes and a lyric video for "To The Beat Of My Heart" — making it a full proper single. The song is an upbeat happy song where all the singers in Steps get a solo bits! We love it! It has a great chorus that happily gets stuck in our heads. It does look like Steps filmed a video for the song with the group at an empty arcade, but they aren't lip syncing to the song. Instead, the lyric appear over the images of the group having fun. Check it out ...

"To The Beat Of My Heart" was written by Annie Yuill, Ben Taylor, Brian Higgins, Keir MacCullough, Kyle Mackenzie, Lee Voss, Matt Grey, Miranda Cooper, Mollie King, Sarah Thompson, and Uzo Emenike! WOW! Eleven people wrote the song — including Mollie from The Saturdays. It was produced by Steve Smith.

As for the remixes, we love the Shortland Tropical Remix, and the 7th Heaven mix is awesome too. There is a Saint remix, which is good too. However, there is also a GMJS Poptastic Club Anthem that caught our eye because of POPTASTIC! Check out the remixes here ...

"To The Beat Of My Heart" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added it our 2021 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!
