More 2 U by Alice D

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy Halloween! This isn't a spooky post. Alice D just released her new single "More 2 U" and it is quite nice! We think you will like it! We do!

"More 2 U" is mid-tempo jam filled with soul and passion as it has a wonderful melody. Alice D gives a stunning vocal performance as her really puts her all in her delivery.

NOVEMBER 19 UPDATE: Alice D debuted her new video and she looks stunning. Not only that, she commands your presence. Have a look ...

Our only complaint is that the song ends too early. "More 2 U" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Please support the artist by legally downloading the track. Streaming is nice, but independent artists really rely on the downloads to make money. Having said that, we've added "More 2 U" to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
—Davearama

Happy Monday! In case you haven't seen the amazing video for "Skibidi" by Little Big, you are missing out. It has gone viral and we can't stop watching it!

Who are Little Big? Don't confuse them with the country group Little Big Town. Little Big are a Russian group who are very controversial by making funny videos for their music — just have a look at their YouTube channel. As for the "Skibidi" music video. It is quite mesmerizing. There is a dance routine that looks quite difficult to learn. It is just bizarre. Check it out ...

Admit it: You want to watch it again! Go ahead! We have watched it countless times. There is also this video where a woman explains some of the social aspects going on that views might miss. Have a look ...

"Skibidi" is available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today. We've gone ahead and added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. And as an extra treat, we've also added their previous single "Faradenza." Woo!

Hush Little Baby (VIP) by Dolly Style featuring Molly

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Dolly Style is releasing 3 solo singles by each Dolly over the next 3 weeks! How crazy is that? We can't think of any other girl group who has done something like this. Up first is Molly with "Hush Little Baby (VIP)."

"Hush Little Baby (VIP)" is a modern take on the traditional lullaby "Hush, Little Baby." The chorus is centered around that tune, but the rest of the song is quite new and different. Dolly Style is currently on tour in Sweden promoting their new single "L-O-V-E" and they are performing the 3 solo songs. Here is Molly's solo performance ...

"Hush Little Baby (VIP)" isn't available for download everywhere. However, most places have it for streaming. We've added it to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
—Davearama

P.S. Up next week is Holly's solo song "Red Lights" and the week after is Polly's solo song "B-A-B-Y." In the meantime, check out these links ...

Runaway by Oscar

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We recently came across this song called "Runaway" by Oscar and we are loving it. And guess what? Oscar has been mentioned in Poptastic Confessions before.

Back in May of 2014, we featured the The Alice EP by Alice D and Oscar (both have since dropped their last names in their music realm) although the feature was mostly about Alice D. Alice D even talked about recording with Oscar in the interview we did with her.

The Handsome Oscar

Fast forward four years and Oscar is out on his own with a song called "Runaway." Oscar's deep vocals take you along the journey as the electronic beats build. Then the chorus kicks in and it really lovely. There is even a female vocal by Tiffi that comes in after the second verse. Overall, it quite nice. Check it out ...

"Runaway" is available on digital outlets everywhere. However, don't confuse it with the song called "Runaway" by Oscar and the Wolf. We've added "Runaway" to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Cheers then,
—Davearama

P.S. We've also heard that Alice D has a new single out next week! YAY! In the meantime, check out these links ...

Montreux by PublicART

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Happy Monday! There is a new synth folk duo called PublicART. Yes, you read that correctly: a synth folk duo. Their latest single is called "Montreux" from their 3-track EP Modernika.

PublicART is an L.A.-based duo made up of the very good looking and very talented Stevvi and Jan. The video (which we'll get to later) also features a drummer, but apparently he isn't officially in the group. Hello Drummer!

"Montreux" sounds like a lovely light electro pop song with an acoustic guitar adding to the rich texture of the song. The vocals are smooth. The melody is dreamy. The video is quite clever! Have a look ...

Wasn't that nice? Yes, it was. So go out and buy the song and the EP! Both are available on digital outlets everywhere. Remember: Buying is always better than streaming. Having said that, we've added "Montreux" to our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Enjoy!~

Live at the London Eventin Hammersmith Apollo by Bananarama

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Bananarama have released their first-ever LIVE album! The album is called Live at The Eventim Hammersmith Apollo and it is AMAZING! It was recorded last November when the original lineup of Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward, and Siobhan Fahey reunited for a tour. Contributors Jason and Davearama review the album.

Siobhan’s departure and subsequent replacement by Jacquie O’ Sullivan just prior to Bananarama’s going on tour in 1989, meant that fans were deprived of getting to see original trio of Keren, Sara, and Siobhan ever properly touring together during their heyday.

With Keren and Sara eventually carrying on Bananarama as a duo over the ensuing decades and Siobhan finding success as Shakespear’s Sister and presumably never wanting to look back, it was a genuine shock when it was announced in 2017 that all three would be reuniting for an Original Line Up Tour. Thankfully, the joyous occasion has been preserved. Live at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo manages to capture the celebratory energy of the show and the spirit of friendship that has always defined the group.

All of the songs’ arrangements have been expertly reworked by Ian Masterson, a key collaborator in Bananarama’s most recent albums. Each song remains recognizable and retains its original appeal but are given just enough additional flourishes to make it sound fresh. A few of the songs are imbued with classic disco elements. “Trick Of The Night” gets the SOS Band treatment, “More Than Physical” gets a A Taste Of Honey bass line, and “I Can’t Help It” is transformed into a shimmering Giorgio Moroder-esque bop. Songs like “Really Saying Something” and “It Ain’t What You Do”, which were deadpan covers versions when they were originally recorded, now instead pay more direct homage to the styles of the original artists and sound more invigorated as a result.

Sara, Keren, and Siobhan thoughtfully sequenced the set list for maximum effect. The show was front-loaded with some of their oldest hits evoking nostalgia, especially “Nathan Jones”, “Robert De Niro’s Waiting”, “Cruel Summer” and “Shy Boy Trouble” (which mixes in the b-side “Boy Trouble”). The ladies then create a “mini-arc” of the band’s break-up and make-up by serving up “Cheers Then”, Shakespear’s Sister cover “Stay” and finally “Preacher Man”, the latter being a stated favorite of Siobhan’s from the years after she left.

The hi-nrg, Stock Aitken Waterman hits are saved for the back half of the show and manage to whip the crowd into a frenzy. The biggest hits “I Want You Back”, “I Heard A Rumour”, “Venus”, and final encore “Love In The First Degree” are obviously the biggest crowd-pleasers.

Having been in the audience, both reviewers (Jason and Davearama) can attest to the enthusiasm of the audience. Even the security personnel could not resist clapping, singing along and joining in on some of the dance routines!

At their peak, Bananarama were often underrated and dismissed by critics. However, this live album demonstrates both the durability of their songs and the genuine appreciation and affection with which they are now viewed.

Live at the London Eventim Hammersmith Apollo is available on digital outlets everywhere. It is also available on CD and vinyl. Plus, there is a DVD! Buy your copies today! We've also added various songs on our 2018 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

BONUS! Bananarama have just announced reissues of their first 6 albums on colored vinyl and cassette! Check it out!

Long live Bananarama!
