Wearing Nothing by Dagny

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We owe a bit of thanks to YouTube for suggesting this next song to us last week. "Wearing Nothing" by Dagny that we can't seem to stop singing it.

Who is Dagny? She is London-based Norwegian singer. She had a single out last year (that we missed) called "Backbeat." So we are bit late to the Dagny party!

Dagny wearing nothing but a fabulous raincoat
and amazing plaid shoes!

Dagny's new single has us getting into the groove. In a good way, her vocals reminds us of Sweden's September. However, the music is a bit more relaxed and cool, yet still being dance music. And the super-cute video is a dancer's delight. Have a look ...

Wasn't that AMAZING? Yes, it was! We just want to watch it over and over.

Dagny's music is available on digital outlets everywhere. Please support the artist by legally downloading and streaming the music. We've added "Wearing Nothing" and "Backbeat" to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Don't Stop by Velvet & Therese

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish dance divas Velvet and Therese have just dropped a single together, it’s called "Don’t Stop."

This is the first time they do a duet and it sounds just as good as we could expect it to sound. Since they are two of Sweden’s biggest and best dance acts, it makes a lot of sense that they are doing a song together. Have a listen ...

For those who are not familiar with them, let us do a quick retrospect of their careers.

Therese

Therese Grankvist kicked off her career under the Alias Drömhus, releasing two hit albums in Sweden before changing her stage name to Therese only. She was featured in huge dance hits, such as "Put ‘Em High" and "Take Me Away" by Stonebridge. She has also written Alcazar’s 2014 single "Good Lovin’" (which was rumored to be one of the tracks she had recorded for her Missing Disco album, released in 2015).

Velvet

Velvet (aka Jenny Peterson) released her first single "Rock Down To (Electric Avenue)" in 2005, after some years working as a backing vocal for other Swedish artists (Funnily enough she sang back up for Lina in 2003 before she was in Alcazar with her song "Nothing Can Stop Me") . In 2006, Velvet took part in Sweden's Melodifestivalen with "Mi Amore" and released her first album, Finally.

Velvet participated in Melodifestivalen two more times with "Deja Vu" in 2008 and "The Queen" in 2009. She has released many amazing singles, including the UK version of BWO’s "Right Here, Right Now." She’s been a bit quiet in the past few years, releasing only 4 singles in the past 4 years. So we’re quite happy that she’s back now with such a stomper.

They promised that there’ll be some remixes coming soon. We really hope they also shoot a video for it!

In the meantime, "Don't Stop" is available on digital outlets everywhere and with an extended version, too! We've added the radio version to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. Have a listen. And buy your copy today!

Cheers then,
—Raoni

Warriors by Tigertown

Dear Poptastic Readers,

On Friday, we were reading PopJustice as we do and they featured a song by a group we've never heard before. The group is called Tigertown and we can stop listening to them, and we don't know how we've done without them for so long.

Their new song is called "Warriors" and it glorious slice of electro dream pop. It has amazing vocals and the music captures your summer spirit and shakes and it says, this is what life is all about. Check out the video that reminds us all to enjoy life ...

Amazing, right? Well, we had to do a bit of research on Tigertown and we went to their website and found out that two of them are married (Chris and Charlie) and three of them are siblings (Chris, Elodie, and Alexi).

Tigertown are: Chris, Charlie, Elodie, and Alexi

They had a fantastic song out last year (that we missed) called "Papernote" that has an epic chorus! Chances are that you missed it, too. Don't delay! Check it out here ...

If that wasn't great enough, check out this snappy song called "Lonely Cities" that has a very uplifting chorus. This group really knows how to churn out the tunes! Watch the video here ...

Now, here are three fabulous songs to get us all on our Tigertown journey. They have more songs for us to delve into. Please support them by legally downloading their music. However, if you are into streaming, and chances you are, please stream their songs. We've added the three songs above to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify (even though the last two are not from 2017).

Cheers then,
—Davearama

Long Time by Blondie

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We were thinking about Blondie's return as we had featured their song "Fun" back in the spring. Well, it seems they released a second single in the spring and we totally missed it! D'oh! The song is called "Long Time."

Now perhaps you've already bought their new album Pollinator and are familiar with the song. In case you haven't, "Long Time" is a nice pop song that will have you bopping along in no time. Check out the video ...

Blondie rocks!

"Long Time", "Fun", and Pollinator are available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! We've added both songs to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Moonlight and Glitter by Dolly Style

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Dolly Style have released a new single titled "Moonlight" and it even has an extra track (what we used to call a B-side, or maybe even a double A-side) called "Glitter."

"Moonlight" is another slice of unashamed pop that Dolly Style keep delivering single after single. This is more in line with their song "Young & Restless" from last year. Check out this live performance ...

Pretty awesome, right?

Now on to "Glitter." It's a bit of a slower track, but very lovely, indeed. And the girls even helped write this one! Check out this live performance of it ...

This is their ninth track available, so we think it is beyond time for them to release their debut album.

We've added both songs to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify. There is also their previous single "Bye Bye Bby Boo" on the playlist, too!

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Battlelines by Una Healy

Dear Poptastic Readers,

The Saturdays singer Una Healy is back with the second single from her debut album The Waiting Game and it is called "Battlelines."

Looking for way to describe Una's sound, we came up with Country Pop. We suppose that is because of the prominent acoustic guitar. Usually, we prefer our pop songs with disco beats, but we put this on our 2017 playlist and now we can't seem to stop singing it throughout the day. As a result, we quite like it! Check out the video here ...

Wasn't that nice? Yes, it was!

"Battlelines" plus Una's previous single "Stay My Love" are both available on digital outlets everywhere. Buy your copy today! And we've added both songs to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Jody Watley and SRL Live in Concert

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We manage to see Jody Watley and Shalamar Reloaded (now branded SRL) in concert every year. Well on Saturday, we went to see them at the Alameda County Fair and the show was AMAZING!

Nate, Jody, and Rosero

We live in close to the bay so we are used to our mild temperatures. When we arrived at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton at about 4:30pm, it was 103 degrees. We enjoyed walking around the fair (especially the air conditioned buildings) and we hung out in the wine garden while waiting for the show to begin.

Thankfully, it cooled down by 8pm and Jody Watley emerged on stage with a set of five dancers led by SRL's Rosero. Jody looked absolutely fantastic and it was fun to see her wave at us.

SRL: Nate, Jody, and Rosero

It wasn't long before Nate and Rosero joined Jody on stage for a string of classic Shalamar hits mixed in with some new songs, too. It was really nice to hear the crowd singing along with their last single "The Mood." (It was our #1 song of 2016!)

The show was electrifying! We were grooving the entire night. A touching moment came right before the grand finale when Jody sang a stripped down version of her hit "Everything." Jody showed off her powerful vocal range and had the crowd cheering throughout.

Our only complaint was that the concert had to be over by 9:30 so they had to wrap it up very quickly with a medley of "Looking For A New Love"/"Real Love." And we would have loved to have hear "Nightlife" too! After all, it was Poptastic Confessions #1 song of 2013!

If you haven't seen Jody Watley and SRL live, you really owe it to yourself to attend a show. Keep tabs with their official Facebook page for upcoming dates! In the meantime, you can buy their songs "The Mood", "O.R.I.G.In.A.L." and "SlowDance" as well as Jody's latest single "Sanctuary" on digital outlets everywhere. You can also find these songs on our 2015, 2016, and 2017 Poptastic Confessions playlists on Spotify!

Echoes by Ulrika

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish singer Ulrika caught our attention last year with the oh-so-fun single "Oh Sally!" and now she is back with a new song called "Echoes" and it is quite the epic affair.

"Echoes" is a mid-temp space-age ballad with a lovely melody and an amazing strong vocal performance by Ulrika. The video is as striking as the song, and it really sets the tone for it. Have a look ...

Wonderful, right? Yes, it was!

Ulrika's music is available on digital outlets everywhere. Download your copy today! We've added "Echoes" and her previous single this year "Love Goes" to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify.

Your Man by THANKS

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We were recently listening to Alphabeat wondering what happened to them. We adore "DJ (I Could Be Dancing)" and "Vacation" as well as "The Spell", "Hole In My Heart", and "Heatwave." We aren't sure if they are broken up permanently or just taking a break. But we discovered that Anders SG and Anders B from the band have a new project called THANKS and they had a single out earlier this year that has caught our attention. It's called "Your Man."

"Your Man" is a fun track that sees Australian singer Sam Sparro on vocals. The video has lots of 80s images for your viewing pleasure. Check out Sam's shirt with Michael Jackson on it! Too much! Enjoy!~

Wasn't that fun? Yes, it was!

THANKS have a new song out called "I Can Get" ... but we can't stop listening to "Your Man" as it just sounds like a summer anthem.

THANKS are Anders and Anders

THANKS music is available on digital outlets everywhere. We are adding "Your Man" to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on Spotify! Support the artists by downloading or streaming the songs.

Pay Me and Money by Rebecca & Fiona

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Swedish duo Rebecca & Fiona have released a new single which appears to be a double-A side and the songs are called "Pay Me" and "Money."

Last week, there was a mysterious post on their Facebook page that says this is the last single of an era. And fans are left wondering if this is the end of Rebecca  & Fiona. Have a look ...

We must admit that we haven't been crazy about this era of Rebecca & Fiona. We bought their Party Hard EP last year, but we only liked the singles so we didn't review it. They had a Christmas single "Cold As X-mas" that came out during our countdown so we didn't highlight it. They also had a single out this spring called "Pop Bitches" but we didn't like it either as it was a departure from their electropop sound that we loved so much.

We aren't jumping up and down for the new songs, but we will add them to our 2017 Poptastic Confessions Spotify Playlist and perhaps they will grow on us. In the meantime, you can hear both songs on Spotify here ...

We hope this isn't the end of Rebecca & Fiona. And we really hope they release more music like our favorite song by them: "Union"

Cheers then,

—Davearama

Belated tidbits about the 2016 countdown

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Usually every January, we have a recap of the year-end countdown of the previous year. However, this year we didn't do it as we were too depressed about the presidential outcome of the United States. This week while we were blogging about our Spotify playlists, we noticed that we never made a cover for our 2016 countdown, and that reminded us we didn't do the Tidbits post. So now that it is July, here are some tidbits about the 2016 countdown ...

1. "The Mood" by Shalamar Reloaded
2. "U-Turn" by Tegan & Sara
3. "Rollercoaster" by Dolly Style
4. "Up On The Floor" by Glass Slipper

19. "Strip" by Clara Mae
20. "What's It Gonna Be" by Shura

And the bonus track ...
21. "Y Ddawns" by Ani Glass

Newcomers Dolly Style had the most songs on our countdown with three entries: "Rollercoaster" at #3, "Young & Restless" at #12, and "Unicorns & Ice Cream" at #17.

Tegan & Sara, All Saints, and Rebecca & Fiona had two entries each.

New to our countdown this year were Tegan & Sara, Dolly Style, Roosevelt, Tuff City Kids, Clara Mae, and Shura.

Sannie has been on our countdown before under the name Whigfield in 2012 with her song "4ever" at #4. And both Christie and the Dream Beats were on our countdown in 2012 with "Love Stuck" at #9.

A couple of artists on our countdown are second-timers: Shalamar Reloaded, RABBII, All Saints, Alice D, Sannie, and Christie.

A special shoutout to artist who have been regulars on our countdowns over the years: Jody Watley, Glass Slipper, Pet Shop Boys, Rebecca & Fiona, and Annie.

Shalamar Reloaded was on the countdown in 2015 with "SlowDance" and 2016's "The Mood" was their first time at #1. However, Jody Watley had our 2013 #1 song with "Nightlife."

For the second year in a row, Shalamar Reloaded also had the most views. Jody Watley has been a big supporter of Poptastic Confessions over the years. She shares our posts on her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as on her website. Because she does this, her fans pour in to visit the site. And we are very grateful for the support. We are seeing Shalamar Reloaded on July 8th and we can't wait!

Newcomer Clara Mae from Sweden takes the runner-up position for the second-most views for "Strip" at #19.

And indie-darling Alice D had the third-most views with "Only You" at #11.

If you would like to listen to our 2016 countdown, click here for the Spotify playlist. However, it isn't complete as not every song is on Spotify.

We are half way through 2017, and we have featured many songs this year so far. You can listen to our 2017 Spotify playlist to see which songs are your favourites. And in December, we'll do the countdown again.

Thanks for supporting Poptastic Confessions and all of the featured artists!
