Back in the 80s, there was a fabulous group called the Thompson Twins. No, there isn't a reunion of the members. Instead, lead singer Tom Bailey is out with a new solo record and his first single "What Kind Of World" from his first solo album called Science Fiction. We are pleased to report that isn't that far away from the Thompson Twins sound.
Now, if you aren't familiar with the Thompson Twins, here is a quick history lesson. They started as a 7-piece band, however they were a trio when they came to fame in 1982. They were Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, and Joe Leeway. Joe left in 1985 and Tom and Alannah continued as a duo and even got married. In the mid 90s, they changed their name to Babble because their music really changed sound. Tom and Alannah eventually divorced. Tom has been touring 80s circuits under the name Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey for the past few years.
Here are some of the Thompson Twins greatest hits. See their UK and US chart history here.
That leads us to Tom's latest song "What Kind Of World." It's an upbeat song with a percussion reminiscent of the Thompson Twins. Even the melody plus Tom's vocals bring you back to a great time while sounding modern all the same time. The lyrics are very topical. Have a listen while you watch the video ...
