En Stilla Depression by Lena Philipsson

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Today we are featuring a song sung in Swedish by Lena Philipsson. The song is called “En Stilla Depression” (which translates to “A Silent Depression”).

Lena Philipsson has been one of Sweden’s most-loved singers since the 80s! Since she took part in Melodifestivalen, her country’s internal selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, for three years in a row, and by achieving a huge success with all her three entries.

Since then, she has had an amazing career in Sweden, scoring many hits and becoming one of their most acclaimed popstars (which, considering how many there are in Sweden, is quite a feat). There was a small period of time in the late 90s and early noughties in which she didn’t release many songs. But she had one of the most phenomenal comebacks in history in 2004 when she won Melodifestivalen and since then she’s Sweden’s reigning pop queen. She has just released her 14th album Maria Magdalena, and it’s one of the most poptastic releases of this year!

Her current single “En Stilla Depression” (A Silent Depression), despite the title, is a bright pop number, which reminds us of Ace of Base a lot! The music video was directed by Lena herself! It shows 4 sides of her, simultaneously! We love how she doesn’t take herself too seriously! Have a look …

Summertime by Sean Smith + Same Difference reunion

Hope you are enjoying the summer! Here's one that definitely needs to be added to your summer playlist. It is "Summertime" by Sean Smith from his new album Solo.

"Summertime" is a fun, laid back song that makes you want to be sipping a cocktail by lying by the pool. However, before long you'd be up and getting your groove on. It has a nice melody and Sean does a great job on the vocals, even hitting some high notes. Have a listen ...

Wasn't that nice? "Summertime" was written by Sean with Andy Sikorski, who also produced the track.

Sean's debut album Solo came out this year and it features his previous singles "Fire", "Verona" (with Peter Wilson), "Do Or Die", and "Dirty Mirrors" (with Ben Davidson).

You may remember that Sean got his start as one half of the duo Same Difference with his sister Sarah. They also have a new charity song out called "One Life, One Love" and it features the students from SD Studios. All proceeds go to COVID-19 Urgent Appeal in aid of NHS Charities Together. Club Zero by The Go-Go's

The Go-Go's are back with new song to compliment their new documentary on Showtime. The new song is "Club Zero" and it has the classic Go-Go's sound.

If you just asked yourself "Who are the Go-Go's?" Well, here they are in the 80s ...

The Go-Gos's are Gina Schock, Jane Weidlin, Kathy Valentine,

Charlotte Caffey, and Belinda Carlisle

The Go-Go's are a LA-based rock band made up of five young women. Their debut single was "Our Lips Are Sealed" (US #20) in the summer of 1981. Their debut album Beauty and the Beat hit #1 in America. The album spawned their biggest hit with "We Got The Beat" (US #2).

In 1983, their sophomore album Vacation (US #8) had the singles "Vacation" (US #8) and "Get Up And Go" (US #50). One more album came in 1984 with Talk Show (US #18), which had the singles "Head Over Heels" (US #11), "Turn To You" (US #32), and "Yes Or No" (US #84).

After that, The Go-Go's split up. Guitarist Jane had a solo hit with "Rush Hour", but it was singer Belinda who went on to have a stellar solo career. Over the years, the band would get back for a tour and an odd song here and there for greatest hits collections.

In 2001, The Go-Go's released their fourth album called God Bless The Go-Go's (US #57) and it had one single called "Unforgiven."

So jump ahead 19 years to today and we have a new Go-Go's single called "Club Zero." We have to admit, we weren't exactly sure about it during the first verse, but then the chorus kicked in and it all clicked. Have a listen ...

Lost Without You by Fly By Midnight featuring Clara Mae

Clara Mae has a new song out with a group called Fly By Midnight. "Lost Without You" is the name of the new song. We hadn't heard of Fly By Midnight before, but they are a New York–based pop duo consisting of singer Justin B and producer Slavo.

"Lost Without You" is a lovely mid-tempo duet. It has a wonderful melody and great vocal performances by Justin and Clara. It will have you tapping your foot or moving around in no time. Watch the music video here ...
