Belated tidbits about the 2016 countdown

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Usually every January, we have a recap of the year-end countdown of the previous year. However, this year we didn't do it as we were too depressed about the presidential outcome of the United States. This week while we were blogging about our Spotify playlists, we noticed that we never made a cover for our 2016 countdown, and that reminded us we didn't do the Tidbits post. So now that it is July, here are some tidbits about the 2016 countdown ...

1. "The Mood" by Shalamar Reloaded
2. "U-Turn" by Tegan & Sara
3. "Rollercoaster" by Dolly Style
4. "Wasn't My Fault" by Christie and the Dream Beats
5. "New Friends" by RABBII
6. "Young & Restless" by Dolly Style
7. "The Pop Kids" by Pet Shop Boys
8. "One Strike" by All Saints
9. "Shotgun" by Rebecca & Fiona
10. "Labyrinth" by Tuff City Kids featuring Annie
11. "Only You" by Alice D
12. "Unicorns & Ice Cream" by Dolly Style
13. "Stop Desire" by Tegan & Sara
14. "In The Morning" by Sannie
15. "One Woman Man" by All Saints
16. "Fever" by Roosevelt
17. "Back To You" by Mollie King
18. "Drugstore Lovin" by Rebecca & Fiona
19. "Strip" by Clara Mae
20. "What's It Gonna Be" by Shura

And the bonus track ...
21. "Up On The Floor" by Glass Slipper

Newcomers Dolly Style had the most songs on our countdown with three entries: "Rollercoaster" at #3, "Young & Restless" at #6, and "Unicorns & Ice Cream" at #12.

Tegan & Sara, All Saints, and Rebecca & Fiona had two entries each.

New to our countdown this year were Tegan & Sara, Dolly Style, Roosevelt, Tuff City Kids, Clara Mae, Shura, and Mollie King. However, Mollie has been on our countdowns before as part of The Saturdays. This was her debut solo single.

Sannie has been on our countdown before under the name Whigfield in 2012 with her song "4ever" at #4. And both Christie and the Dream Beats were on our countdown in 2012 with "Love Stuck" at #9.

A couple of artists on our countdown are second-timers: Shalamar Reloaded, RABBII, All Saints, Alice D, Sannie, and Christie.

A special shoutout to artist who have been regulars on our countdowns over the years: Jody Watley, Glass Slipper, Pet Shop Boys, Rebecca & Fiona, and Annie.

Shalamar Reloaded was on the countdown in 2015 with "SlowDance" and 2016's "The Mood" was their first time at #1. However, Jody Watley had our 2013 #1 song with "Nightlife."

For the second year in a row, Shalamar Reloaded also had the most views. Jody Watley has been a big supporter of Poptastic Confessions over the years. She shares our posts on her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as on her website. Because she does this, her fans pour in to visit the site. And we are very grateful for the support. We are seeing Shalamar Reloaded on July 8th and we can't wait!

Newcomer Clara Mae from Sweden takes the runner-up position for the second-most views for "Strip" at #19.

And Alice D had the third-most views with "Only You" at #11.

If you would like to listen to our 2016 countdown, click here for the Spotify playlist. However, it isn't complete as not every song is on Spotify.

We are half way through 2017, and we have featured many songs this year so far. You can listen to our 2017 Spotify playlist to see which songs are your favourites. And in December, we'll do the countdown again.

Thanks for supporting Poptastic Confessions and all of the featured artists!

Cheers then,

Poptastic Confessions is on Spotify!

Dear Poptastic Readers,

We've been on Spotify for a few years, but we admit we haven't been super proactive with it. However, with the current trend in streaming services, we are embracing it, even though we prefer to download mp3s.

The problem we have with Spotify and other streaming services is that a lot of the music we feature is often from other countries, and the music isn't always available in certain areas. Some independent artists need to have their music on BandCamp so they get more of the profits. With all of that in mind, we have made playlists for our countdowns that have been featured over the past six years in Poptastic Confessions

Click on the links below to listen to the playlists. But keep in mind, they aren't complete as some songs are just not available to us on Spotify.

Have a great time listening! Remember to like Poptastic Confessions Facebook page and follow Davearama on Twitter!

Cheers then,

Weightless and Holding On by Infernal

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Back in 2012, Poptastic Confessions fell in love with "Love Is All ..." by the Danish group Infernal. What a belter that was! And then Infernal took a break.

Infernal are Paw and Lina

We were thinking about them lately, so we looked them up and sure enough, they have had two new songs out this year: "Weightless" and "Holding On."

First up is "Weightless" that was released earlier this spring and the more we hear this, the more we love it. While there isn't a music video, you can hear the studio version here. However, you can watch a performance on Danish morning television here ...

Wasn't that nice? Yes, it was. And the more you listen to it, the more you will love it!

Next up is the current single "Holding On." It starts off a bit slower, but then it picks up the pace and it really is a great song. Here the studio version here.

Unfortunately, these Infernal songs aren't available on US iTunes. However, they are Spotify! You can also listen to both of them on our 2017 Poptastic Playlist on Spotify!

Cheers then,
—Davearama

P.S. You can like Infernal's Facebook page. And while you are there, please like Poptastic Confessions Facebook page and follow Davearama on Twitter.

Please share and retweet our posts so that we support the artists!

Story Of A Heart by Steps

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Last week, Poptastic Confessions quietly turned 6 years old! Woo-Hoo! And at the end of last week, Steps released their second single from their brilliant comeback album Tears On The Dancefloor. The new single is the expected "Story Of A Heart." It's a mid-tempo affair with a lovely melody.

"Story Of A Heart" was written by Benny and Björn from ABBA. However, it isn't an ABBA song. It was originally recorded in 2009 by the Benny Andersson Band. You can hear the original version. But first, check out Steps video ...

Very good.

Now, let's hope there are more singles from Tears On The Dancefloor by more exciting songs. Our picks for the next single would be either "Space Between Us" or "Glitter & Gold" or BOTH!

"Story Of A Heart" and the epic first single "Scared Of The Dark" as well as the brilliant album Tears On The Dancefloor are available on digital outlets everywhere. Don't delay, buy your copy today! You can also listen to it on our 2017 Poptastic Playlist on Spotify!

Angels In Chains by Geri Halliwell

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell released a single this week called "Angels In Chains" and it is a tribute to the late George Michael. Geri and George were good friends, and she has taken this moment to reignite her solo career.

"Angels In Chains" is a mid-tempo piano-led ballad filled with George Michael song references. Geri's vocals are quite good and she even got George's backup singers to be involved. The result is not bad. Check out the video ...

In case you didn't follow Geri's solo career, she had some amazing singles like "Look At Me" (1999 UK #2, New Zealand #1), "Mi Chico Latino" (1999 UK #1), "Lift Me Up" (1999 UK #1), "Bag It Up" (2000 UK#1), "It's Raining Men" (2001 UK #1, Belgium #1, France #1, Ireland #1, Italy #1), "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" (2001 UK#8), "Calling" (2001 UK #7), "Ride It" (2001 UK#4), "Desire" (2000 UK #22), and "Half Of Me" (2013).

"Angels In Chains" was supposed to be available on digital outlets everywhere. However, it isn't on the iTunes in the US. All proceeds will go to Childline. Buy your copy today, if you can. It is on Spotify so you can add it there.

Cheers then,

—Davearama
