Happy New Year! Every January, we do a recap about the countdown we we just did in December, and share some tidbits about the Top 21. Here are the chart toppers of 2022 ...

Bananarama had the most songs in the Top 21 with 4 songs! Betty Boo was second with 3 songs. Both Pure Shores and Isle Of You had 2 songs each. Special callout to Alice D who co-wrote 3 songs in the Top 21.

Newcomers in our countdown were Betty Boo, Wuh Oh, SG Lewis, Pure Shores, Chambray, Dualities, and Thimlife.

Returning artists who have been at the #1 spot were Bananarama, Francine Belle, Rikky Disco, and Jody Watley. Both Bananarama and Jody Watley have had our #1 spot twice.

"Stuff Like That" by Bananarama was our #1 Song of 2019

"Beautiful Heights" by Francine Belle was our #1 Song of 2018

Happy New Year! In case you are just joining us, we have been counting down our Top 101 Songs of 2022. Today we finish the countdown.

 

#1 in our Top 101 Songs of 2022 is: “Get Me To The Weekend” by Betty Boo. Click on the name of the song to read about what we originally wrote about the song earlier this year.

Why: Betty Boo's comeback this year was nothing short of amazing. She had 4 proper singles, 2 teaser singles, 3 music videos, 2 lyric videos, and 1 very fun album: Boomerang. It's hard to believe that 30 years passed between her 2nd album and her latest. It was her comeback single "Get Me To The Weekend" that we just couldn't stop listening to all year long. It's a bit wonky with the Human League sample, some obvious autotune, and a guitar solo. Maybe it shouldn't work, but it does! This is so much fun, and 2022 was better because Betty was back!

Why: Bananarama are amazing and their new album Masquerade is our favourite album of 2022. The single "Masquerade" has been referred to as gothic disco pop, we prefer epic electronica dream pop. It's a song that easy to swept up in. It is glorious!

 

Watch: The music video is divine. Sara, Keren, and other women (see Alice D) run around a castle and the grounds. It is a video you can watch time and time again. Sara and Keren look absolutely stunning. Check it out on our 2022 Poptastic Confessions Playlist on YouTube.
