2014 Countdown ... #100 through #62

Dear Poptastic Readers,

It's that time of year again to countdown the 40 most poptastic songs! Now, you might wonder why the most popular songs are missing from our Top 40 —like Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" or Pharrell William's "Happy." We actually like both of those songs, and we are sure they will top the year-end charts elsewhere. The whole reason Davearama started these countdowns when he was a teenager was because his favorite songs weren't the top songs. So he made his own charts and started Poptastic Confessions! And over the years, we have embraced certain popular songs, while also taking notice of the fabulous songs that didn't get much attention. So that is what this list is about.

There were a lot of songs featured in Poptastic Confessions over the year that didn't make the Top 20. But that doesn't mean they weren't good songs. Here is #100 through #62. Then we will do the countdown every day until the last day of the year. So keep checking back!

Real For You EP by Joey McCrilley featuring Alice D

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Today is the day I start the Top 40 Countdown of my favourite songs of 2014. But before I get to that, here is that last new music entry of the year! Alice Dallin-Walker (click on her name for her interview with Poptastic Confessions) is now going by the name of Alice D. Well, Alice D has some new songs out today with Joey McCrilley and you are going to want to stop what you're doing and head over to iTunes now to download the EP.

The EP has three songs and Alice D sings on two of the tracks. The music style is house. And it will having you grooving in no time. The two songs that Alice sings on are called "Sweet Embrace" and "Real For You."Alice's beautiful voice really brings the tracks to life.

Since the EP was just released today, it will be too late to make my Top 40 list of this year. So I'll go ahead and add both songs to my 2015 playlist. Now you might want to watch my Top 40 to see if either of Alice's songs from earlier this year made my Top 40.

Revisiting 2013

Dear Poptastic Readers,

Every year, I do a little countdown of my favourite songs of the year. I've been doing this since I was a teenager! It all started when I would listen to the year-end countdown of the most popular songs on the radio. The top songs were almost always never my favourites. So, I started making up my own lists full of alternative pop gems that weren't always the huge hits.

On Poptastic Confessions, you can check out my Top 20 list for 2010 and my Top 20 list of 2011, and my Top 20 of 2012. And this post will revisit my Top 20 of 2013. Mister Sister by Kate Pierson

I normally don't promote new music in December because I am getting ready to start the year-end countdown. I usually just wait to January to promote them. However, Kate Pierson from The B-52s has a new song that is just too good not to share before the countdown starts.

Kate's new song is called "Mister Sister" and I think the lyrics are so charming. It's a song sung to a transgendered child. It's great song! Just watch the super-cute video! It features Fred Armisen.

Good news! The Lovely Wars have gone and recorded the holiday classic "The First Noel." And it is lovely, indeed! Want more good news? The track is FREE!
